I’ve been saying this for a while now. American exceptionalism is going to be the downfall of America. Just because it hasn’t happened to you, doesn’t mean it can’t happen. Only those of us who have lived through it, knew exactly how everything was going to play out.
I left Venezuela for a very good reason and now I’m extremely proud to call Canada home. Those losers will do well to move down South, but they won’t because they are perpetual whiners, regardless of the current situation. Never take accountability for their shortcomings.
You are firmly planted in reality, as dystopian as it might be. Other people are deluded in their belief of upcoming elections. Haven’t they clued in that the current administration is working to NOT have those, anymore? When the time comes, they will still be clutching their pearls.

Venezuelans around the world celebrated without any regrets when Hugo Chavez died. His death didn’t solve the problem, but it sure felt tucking good. As a matter of fact, a smirk came on as I was typing this. It was a great day and hopefully, it will feel the same for you.
Not sure where it all started, but defunding education and non-stop right-wing propaganda on Fox News and eventually on social media, helped along the way. It appears critical thinking is optional now. Never mind the nefarious Christo Fascists working behind the scenes since the Reagan years.

That’s the real issue. Trump is nothing more than the culminating symptom of a society in decay. One that rejects scholars and science, prides itself in rugged individualism with no room for empathy, along with healthy doses of xenophobia, bigotry and racism. Pandora’s box is wide open now.

You are absolutely right. As a former Venezuelan citizen (now Canadian). I can guarantee you, it’s going to get worse. Those precious constitutional guard rails and separation of powers have not done a damn thing to stop the avalanche. It’s up the citizens now.

If it’s any consolation, countless countries have gone through it. Ironically enough, in some instances, the U.S. helped bring about that same blend of authoritarianism abroad. I’m Canadian now, but 23 years ago I was a Venezuelan citizen going about implementing my exit strategy.
I can’t wait for the day that clown does a face plant on his unfinished Big Mac and fries. It will be a fitting end for the guy that embodies the worst qualities of America.
I was an international exchange student, living in North Canton Ohio around that time (1990-1991). All we did was hang out with other international students from Spain, Germany, Japan, Italy and Australia and a few American kids. It was awesome! I miss those days.
