I voted for her early and so glad I did; I was in the hospital halfway through an 8 day admission (a couple days after voting) when I found out she lost, couldn’t have been worse timing 😭 and ironically I’ve had a literal constant headache since 2016 as well…wonder why…

Good for you! I also haven’t been to a dentist since 2019 - I know I really need to but I have so much fearfulness/trauma from losing an adult tooth in 2019 and the oral surgeon basically saying a bridge wouldn’t work bc of my chronic illness. I should get that 2nd opinion…
I turned 34 Sunday - the 5th time in my life my birthday has been on Mother’s Day, and my second time as a mother! 💕 it was a great day spent riding rollercoasters at Cedar Point, and I have a feeling that 34 will be my best year yet - so much esp. my 1st house & wedding on horizon!

April Read #10/11: HoverGirls by Geneva Bowers. @gdbee.bsky.social ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Loved the art and the relationship between the two main characters, as well as their back stories and the clever defeat of the villains.
While I agree about most democrats, there are some democrats (Newsome 🤢) who are throwing trans people under the bus to appear more “moderate”. There are others who blame us trans people for Kamala losing which is absurd. Supporting trans people shouldn’t be political. It’s human rights.
April read #9: Rules for Ghosting by @shellyjayshore.bsky.social. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. By far the best book I read this year so far. Trans protagonist, complex Jewish family, tons of humor and heart - plus ghosts!! The characters, prose, and relationships are top notch; I wanted to stay in this book forever.

Right, definitely not the same dog. The articles seem to argue that no dog naturally stands on its legs often without training - but concedes that there’s no proof that any of these dogs were abused, they could have been trained using positive reinforcement.

Their alt text is consistently some of the best I’ve ever read; I follow them just for that. It really puts the other big accounts who don’t use alt text at all to shame & is one of my favorite follows accordingly.

Dynamic disabilities are so interesting like that! I feel that with my autism, my adhd, and my chronic illnesses. Some days I feel great/mask great and am like, heyyy maybe I’m not disabled. Then I flare for a week and I’m like, Ope, yep, still disabled 😂

Good thoughts appreciated - have been having a bad flare for 5 days now (especially lower back, flank & left hip pain, as well as spine pain), & it’s just been getting worse and I haven’t really had much of an appetite over that time, so I went to the local ER to be seen, mostly to r/o infection.

Has anyone switched mobility aids from a cane to something more and can advise me? I’m on my own a lot and a wheelchair doesn’t make sense, but I have considered a lightweight wheeled rollator with a seat. It would be a big investment but could mean a lot for ongoing independence.

Also today I read something that described EDS as a condition that “doesn’t flare” and if I’ve ever read something less truthful I can’t recall it… 😬🥲 doesn’t help that I have a bunch of comorbids too I suppose.
On day 4 of one of the worst chronic pain flares I’ve had in a long while thanks to the temps and probably overdoing it on vacation (don’t regret it though!). Have gotten a little house stuff done but mostly been bedridden; had some good reading time though!

Yes!!! I’ve started commenting and then muting them all; it’s so frustrating! There are so many of the big accounts on here that don’t use alt text. It makes them seem really lazy and ableist honestly.

Ugh same. I was a vegetarian for a while and I love vegetables! But it’s not healthy for me to be exclusively vegetarian or vegan due to my chronic illnesses. Sometimes meat or milk are some of my only safe foods for both neurodivergent and chronic health reasons.
This is a great comic - can you please consider alt text? I would share but can’t without alt text due to my commitment to accessibility (both due to my career and the fact my partner is blind and wouldn’t be able to engage with this).
An edit function would also allow people to add alt text to posts when they are asked to improve accessibility; right now they have to delete the post entirely which they obviously don’t want to do when there’s been engagement; the big accounts are the biggest offenders of no alt text.

Yes, as from the other reply; it’s Assigned Female at Birth. In the non-binary community, it should really only be used by the non-binary person themself or if they say it’s ok, or if it’s absolutely relevant like in healthcare (source: AFAB non-binary myself).
I am a “biological woman” (this term is gross by the way). I know that trans women are much more likely to be the victims of assault than the perpetrators. If someone wants to come in a bathroom and assault me, a law isn’t going to stop them, and it’s likely not going to be a trans woman.
In the US, many positions, especially salaried positions, give “Paid Time Off” or PTO days that can be used at one’s leisure (though if they’re not for sick time often have to be planned in advance with the permission of one’s supervisor).

Thank you, it is super frustrating! I tried workplace accommodations but they were impossible in that field (working with children). It was just physically too much; when I was there it was fine but I missed too many days w/ the hospitalizations. Now I work from home and can control my environment.
I’m pretty sure I’m a human but I’m a reader and I mispronounce words all the time bc I’ve often only seen them written. I know solder bc of an engineer dad, but I long thought macabre was literally mack-uh-bray. Ma-kob is definitely not where my brain goes with that!
Plus there are plenty of artists that would draw you a much better action figure for not that large of a commission, & it’ll look way better (& lake draining not included). I had my daughter draw mine and it is one of my most cherished things now, plus she’s thrilled I paid her her first commission!

Was able to take 3 days off work and have been on a delightful mini-cation with my daughter over the last 3 & next 2 days! Children’s museum & bakery for gluten free Easter treats; Easter weekend w/ my parents & partner; butterfly garden today & indoor waterpark tomorrow! Never been to the latter.
I didn’t start really seeing myself in stories until my 30’s, which is a big contributing factor to me not realizing I was disabled until my mid 20s and not coming out as queer and non-binary until my 30s! Now my daughter gets to read children’s books with disabled protagonists and queer families 🥹
Oh my gosh this is horrible. My daughter likely got her conditions from me and it would be heartbreaking for both of us if someone asked her that (I had her before I was really symptomatic and before I was diagnosed with cEDS, though not before dx of my Chiari malformation).
When I got sick, despite 3 years of progressive sickness culminating in over 20 overnight hospitalizations in a year, I knew I still likely wouldn’t qualify so I went back for a second grad degree to find a job I could do with accommodations.
I got sick in 2016 - I had a 2 year old, was in my mid 20s and should have been at “peak” healthiness, just graduated w/ master’s. This was so hard for me to get over. I felt like such a failure, like I had done something horribly wrong. Nope. Disability just happens. To everyone, eventually.
I honestly am not sure where I fall on the non-binary spectrum(though I know this is a joke post 😂). I feel like a secret third gender but I haven’t found a good word that fits me for that: I’m definitely not agender or gender fluid. Only non-binary fits so far.
I always thought other things were the reason I identified as enby but no no, must be my hatred of true crime. Got enough anxiety to go around still though.
I have the Kamala action figure!! Got it way back in 2020. Love it (and her) 💕

I loved the fact that artists took an AI “trend” back and made their own awesome art out of it! I am anti-AI but not an artist - BUT I live with an artist, my 11 year old daughter! This is her first ever commission, which she’d tell you proudly - I paid her $10 & will cherish it forever 💕
I’ve gone places as an ambulatory wheelchair user - not protests, so your mileage and locale may def vary - but I was so worried, and ended up treated with lots of kindness and understanding!! Navigating an unfamiliar place w/ a wheelchair is a big reason why I use a cane day to day though.
I mean he brought up the brain worm in the first place to argue why he couldn’t hold a job and pay child support or some shit 😂 even though he’s a gd Kennedy 😂 as if his views on autism & chronic/mental health didn’t make me (the autistic, chronically & mentally ill mom to a same kid) pissed enuf.
