Perhaps it’s to do with expectations. I was always told how smelly it was in summer, so the first time I came it was way better than I expected. And now, even though there’s the occasional whiff, it’s certainly much better than it used to be.
To be fair, that’s a decent description of a fair amount that went on in there over the years.

Already posted rather a lot this morning, but my mother just sent me a photo of her from 1972. At the laundrette in Leiston, Suffolk, though it could almost be a still from Solaris. My father would have taken the photo (and perhaps was just as enamoured by the glam science fiction of the setting)
When they hatch, the chicks are covered in fluffy feathers and immediately ready for action. These are Piping Plovers, American cousins of the Ringed Plover, but the principle’s the same. Cuteness overload. youtu.be/EvTagDFLaPQ
