If you are a regular at conventions, I’m sure you’ve run into a booth named Salami Productions. This booth is run by a man named Marco. Marco regularly booths at Artist Alley, and has woven art displayed all over their booth alongside spicy stickers.
I was next to (one of) the AI slop booths at DragonCon and all I got was this lousy t-shirt. So, as you may or may not know, there was a booth selling AI slop images printed on acrylic panels at DragonCon. They were in booth a-10. I was in a-11. Here’s what happened from my perspective.

I'm all for warning about AI users but I do feel like we need to be more responsible when pointing the finger. You have to be willing to present your case. This style of tumblr-callout attitude isn't helpful at all in combating the use of AI.

I actually had to explain to someone recently that the AI that tells enemies in video games how to react to player inputs is NOT genAI and has existed for literal decades. they genuinely had no idea there was a difference. this shit has poisoned the well so bad.

it just can't decide what it wants to do though. it goes back and forth. either they remember the founders super readily or meditating is a lost art in riverclan (which IH then immediately contradicts, because icewing teaches it to ivypool before frostpaw can reintroduce it.)
yeah-- like i said-- SUPER immersion breaking for me. it only worked for the front half of ASC for me because frostpaw was like "idk who this man is someone please wake me up" when riverstar is like "girl hiiii"
see i like AVoS but in a "i read it specifically for the tragedy of strikestone and juniperclaw's brotherhood" kind of way which is not how it's meant to be read LMAO
much like starclan, it's ruining the mysticism of it. i did really like riverstar helping frostpaw in ASC though. that, in particular, felt very in character for him. he's a peaceloving guy who roots for the underdog.
i really really really like DotC and it's one of my favorite arcs but it's supposed to be ancient history, and in a culture where they don't have an oral tradition specifically for history keeping or telling this specific story, i don't understand why they keep having modern cats reference it.
i hope they take more risks in the future though. no more SEs of characters we already know shit about, please. (i say this knowing we're gonna get the darktail book next year and it's gonna have nothing new.)
leaving is actually PRETTY FAR REMOVED from DOTC so like those stories should have been through several games of telephone by now esp since warriors doesn't really have any oral history traditions other than telling fantastical tales to kits. so it was pretty immersion breaking For Me.)
i definitely like that they took a risk though, even if the pacing and the lack of showing instead of telling me really irritated me. (and i am not sure if this is just My Personal Beef but i can tell it kind of wanted to be set right after DOTC so bad with how clearly it references it, but skyclan
tell it was the authors revealing their hands. like 99% of the time when they did it was a big "this character WILL die or leave the clan the next chapter" warning sign. the only believable friend w/o being Told Info was pebblenose and he left EARLY.
yeah that's kind of my point and sorry i didn't get it across-- leopardstar's honor is way too fucking long for a character we already know pretty much everything about. the books needed to swap page counts, stormclan's folly really needed the extra time because when it DID finally show instead of
no literally this is the same thing that happened with silverhawk in TBC when they gave him like, the most interesting backstory ever in two sentences with a missing wife who is not in StarClan or the DF and i'm like wait this guy is so cool and you didnt tell me about him
also to be clear: a 5/10 score for a warriors book means i liked it. 5/10 is halfway, that's a passing grade.
there is a fanwork that ascended to its own indie project that has a very, very difficult time with the above too and i don't want to say its name because i WILL probably get subtweeted to hell and back, but if you know you know.

one more thing-- the problem with books that consistently tell instead of show, is that when they do show, it nearly 100% of the time reveals their hand plotwise. character is shown to have a nice moment? well don't get too attached to them then, because they're definitely dying the next chapter.
