StormClan's Folly review // there will be spoilers. It was alright. This book definitely needed more character moments-- Warriors has never particularly excelled at writing romance, and unfortunately this book really favors telling instead of showing, with both of its romantic leads as well as its
supporting cast. ESPECIALLY with the supporting cast. There is literally NOTHING I hate more in canon Warriors books or its fanworks when it has things like "remember how we are such good friends?" "Yeah we are such good friends." like AAAA SHOW ME. Unfortunately the one cat they really showed
that with exits the narrative with his boyfriend (!!! diversity win!! gay cats leave super edition 1/3rd of the way through) pretty early on. It has some really good ideas, I actually really love the fact that what killed Galestar's first unborn kits was vague. Was it the pain and trauma from
losing her lives? Does she just have trouble conceiving and this was an unfortunate accident? Was it just abnormal and the branch hitting her is what did it? It doesn't matter because all that matters is that she feels punished. I like that this book was pretty anti-StarClan and I hope this means
that the series plans to examine that more, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. This is the same series that told cats from the Dark Forest that they could never be redeemed (despite them literally helping the protagonists for the solid last books in the arc) and didn't treat this like it was a
huge problem that StarClan said that. Anyway. 5/10 -- too much telling and not showing, which really causes the book to plod towards the conflict we already know is coming way ahead of time thanks to Ivypool's Heart. Galestar is cool.
This book and Leopardstar's Honor needed their page lengths/word counts swapped.
one more thing-- the problem with books that consistently tell instead of show, is that when they do show, it nearly 100% of the time reveals their hand plotwise. character is shown to have a nice moment? well don't get too attached to them then, because they're definitely dying the next chapter.
