Work to cover the Senne river in Brussels in the 1870s, partly to prevent cholera outbreaks. The contractor was Waring Brothers of York. They were railway specialists and previously created the vaults and approaches to Saint Pancras, extracting cholera victims from Old Saint Pancras churchyard.
