Mules proved far more resistant to disease, illness & poor animal management than horses during the #FirstWorldWar. Mortality in the field & during transportation was less than half that of horses & they could be kept in good condition on food rations 25% smaller #MuleMonday š· IWM Q8531

My great grandad was RGA; didnāt speak much about the war, only told my grandma he āworked with the big horsesā and had terrible feet problems for rest of his life (not that that was very long, died young after a tough life). This is the only photo we have of him

Yeh well, I grumble about lots of changes like this that there is a lack of long term thinking on. Encouraging people to buy electric cars rather than focusing on getting people off PCP traps and keeping vehicles for longer than 4 years to lower carbon footprint being the big one.

from what Iāve read so far, it was to help keep LRP/efforts behind enemy lines moving as quickly as possible when their mules popped their clogs, but the number of people and resources involved in actually getting the mules prepped and deployed was always going to be huge so seems mad to me.

So amused by the sight, Manners decided to take Crump and gift him to General Sir Stuart Wortley to whom he was serving as aide-de-camp. Ah, no such uncomfortableness here. Michael Bates is brilliant in it, many people donāt realise he grew up in India, was fluent in Urdu and served in Burma with distinction in 3/9 Gurkhas. The show is of its time sure but thereās nothing malicious about it - no need for guilt as itās damn funny.
