This is going to be the club's line for sure. The problem for me is that Paraag was so bullish about more incomings just 3 weeks ago. He has raised expectations and failed to deliver. Also the bids for Muniz + Paixao were £30m+ each, how were we going to pay for them?
Also I think we ran out of money before they finished the rebuild, if so how has that happened? It's been an absolute shit show quite honestly.
When you look back to last season Southampton were competitive in matches but couldn't score. Once they conceded that was it, and when the defeats came regularly they completely capitulated. We weren't solid under bilesa last time we were there but we scored goals, we haven't got that this time.
Pissed off because it's abundantly clear we need chance creation in the team.It's all very well staying solid but what it actually means is lots of clean sheets which is unlikely. At some point you need to score goals, and that's our problem.
It's always someone else's fault isn't it!
This is the only out of contract addition worth considering imo.
Bielsa is a one off, we all know that, comparing anyone to him, let alone Farke is futile. If you think this side is capable of getting mid then I'm afraid your expectations are totally unrealistic. Farke has his limitation but it will be on the club if we go down.

Newcastle also haven't won away for ages, they are not great away from home. Having said that I was really pleased with how we nullified them, but it's clear we need additions if we are going to win games.

Amps and Tanaka out for an extended period is a disaster, we simply do not have the quality to cover both. We'll get eaten up by almost every side in the prem with Gruev and Longstaff starting. God forbid Stach gets injured.
This was said on Waccoe the other night so not a surprise. Is it too dramatic to say our midfield is in crisis.? Longstaff and Gruev looked bloody awful. We've got major problems.

'When he's not got an injury' is the issue I worry about. Nmecha too, also Okafor is prone to having significant time out too. The first week of the prem has shown us how tough this league is, potentially losing two key players for up to a month or more. We need robust players if we are to survive.
DCL likely won't play that much anyway if you look at his injury record. We started our recruitment promisingly, but the forward positions are worrying me a lot. Being reliant on two injury prone forwards with championship level backup does not give me confidence.
After sleeping on it I'm glad it's happened this early in the season. It's a wake up call, the transfer window is still open, and I think we need to ship a couple out and get better. Also shines a light on DF, he has to learn from this plain and simple.

Yesterday highlighted a massive issue if the other two injury prone strikers are actually injured at the same time, which isn't that unlikely. The optimism of Monday hasn't lasted long and it's clear we have more work to do in this window.
Agree entirely with this. It all went to shit after the first goal and that is what concerned me. No shape whatsoever and ball retention was shocking. Food for thought for sure.

Imo we need need to shift a couple out and replace them with much better. Our DM cover isn't good enough with amps out and is Piroe premier league class. I personally don't think so.

Gruev just isn't up to this level imo. I was always concerned if Amps got injured that we wouldn't have the quality of cover required in that position.
It's the step up in class, it's a reality check. Our battles won't be with arsenal this season.

My thoughts too tbh. We are going to press a lot so you need to be able to bring players on that can keep up that intensity, so I too think it's likely he stays. Same applies to Brendan.
I think Rama will be sent out on loan, quite possible Harrison still goes somewhere tho.
His name was mentioned quite a bit earlier in the window. I've read Buonanotte is someone we would like on loan, but also seen Spertsyan mentioned again. Uche looks a big strong player, Spertsyan looks great at dead balls. Would love to see us get someone that could deliver quality into the box.

Everton looked winnable on paper but I thought we'd have a striker in by now. Arguably the most important piece of business that was needed along with a keeper and we still haven't done it.
I thought we played quite well, but it's clear where our limitations are. The recruitment team needs to get these next signings spot on if we want to be competitive this season.
A loan where he can get regular minutes will do him the world of food. God knows why we bought him if we weren't going to play him. I can't help feeling sorry for him.
To do that we need to ensure we have the players to give it a go. The last pieces of the jigsaw will be the most important.
IMO the gap has grown wider in quality between the prem sides and the championship. Staying up is a monumental task now and if we're going to have any chance whatsoever these attacking signings have to be a significant upgrade on what we currently have.
Tanaka for Longstaff is a must for me.
I remember how so many of our fan base was moaning about how he disappeared in games, I was one of them tbf. We know he can finish but a lot of times last season he went missing in games. I still think he could do a job from the bench but as you say we need someone who offers a lot more.
I hope not. He's decent on his day but after being in for such an exciting player this would feel a bit flat to say the least. Also don't think he's anything particularly special at premier league level anyway. We need a real difference maker to stay alive in this league.
Just hope we can get this one over the line now, would be a massive signing.

Really Impressed with the work that's been done this week. Obviously plenty still to do but it certainly feels like a plan is coming together. I just wonder how we sign those linked players without having to make significant sales ourselves though. Time will tell.

But if the intention is to improve your first eleven bringing in a player that arguably may not do that seems a bit weird. Surely you look at another player that likely walks into the first team not someone that spends a lot of time on the bench. Seems a bit all over the place to me.
I do wonder what our strategy is here. With Diarra it was clear he would be seen as a player with higher ceiling potential to improve our first team. Now we're talking about Longstaff who brings PL experience but is more likely to be a depth filler. All seems a bit confused to me.

Paraag said they'd been working on it for 6 months prior, it doesn't look like it atm. Totally underwhelmed at this point mainly because we keep missing the bullseye with our targets. Having said that there's still time to get it right, but we need to see something positive very soon.

That's a fair comment, Sadiki wasn't that pricey imo but obviously I have no of clauses were inserted. If we're only looking to spending £15m or so on a midfielder then I'm not sure we will get what is required. I obviously hope that's not the case.
We need competition and we need the depth to have a way higher ceiling than we have now. Do you honestly see Gruev and Byram being good enough depth? Imagine Tanaka or Ampadu get injured, who then comes in? We have loads of work to do otherwise we are only going one way.
That's three players that we've missed out on because we don't meet the clubs valuation. It's all going very well!
I think the fact that two of the midfielders we wanted both going to Sunderland is proof enough.
Another 6 I would say, we obviously need GK,CF,AM,LW bare minimum but we also need more in midfield and at least one more for full back cover. There's loads to do but our midfield targets keep falling by the wayside. Not totally impressed so far I'm afraid.
3 or 4 isn't even enough. Regardless of that we aren't getting the players that we have targeted, that is a big concern.

True enough but as the original post said I'd have liked to have seen one or two more key positions filled as early as possible. I'm sure the club know exactly what they're doing so I'm fairly relaxed at this stage. The sooner we get them in tho the more time they have to settle in.
We were linked to Diarra and Sadiki for weeks and believe we put an offer in for at least one of them, but they both ended up at Sunderland. There's been talk about us signing Stach but once again it's dragging on and a similar thing could well happen there too. We need players in asap.

Tbh without stopping the boats or significantly cutting the number of arrivals I'm afraid they are pissing in the wind. Farage's main argument has been about people coming here by that method and he will win the argument every time until that is dealt with.
Without finding a solution to the boats I'm afraid he's doomed to fail with the people he's targeting to appease. And If he keeps pivoting to the right not only will he lose voters like me but I think it will be a matter of time before there is a huge rebellion within the parliamentary party.

I'm sure it would help but not convinced it would be the complete answer. Care work isn't a job a lot of us would choose to do, not even if wages are good.
The harsh reality is that most people want to see immigration tackled now and something has to be done. However the approach needs to be sensible and in the national interest. Care workers who choose to come here are invaluable, if we cut them off then who's going to do that vital work?
I like the ambition but there will be many more teams ahead of us in the queue.
