Jumped the gun - happy first day of spring to those living in the south! *This* is the real last update of Australian numbers for winter 2025, as the data is a retrospective by a day -01SEP FluA subtype A(H1N1) dominates.
Four viruses under this banner, unimaginatively casually called HPIV-1, HPIV2, HPIV3, HPIV-frank (kidding its HPIV-4; H=human). But they are split across two species and two genera (the next level up of separation) within one virus family called Paramyxoviridae. Colds through to croup & bronchitis.
Now we just need an actual peace to guarantee the safety of!

I don't know what primary care is for if not to see people who are sick! Is the intent to push this out to the satellite health centres (if you're in Qld) or hospital EDs? There are many other things apart from SARS-CoV-2, flu or RSV that could cause respiratory infections so best to get a lab test

One rule for me & another rule for you. This sort of hypocritical imbalance rightly posses people off & yet we've normalised it. Those guys get away with it. It adds to a world that increasingly sees inequity everywhere & ➡️ anger, othering, & generally bad outcomes for the community
The same treatment can be seen in other forms, such as when we describe the suburban or small-town murderer as 'such a nice bloke', or the bullying teacher as 'just making a joke' or the domestic abuser as 'a pillar of the community' (one I have family experience with).
"Being colourful". An age-old excuse for behaviour we know is beyond the norm and that we'd consider unacceptable if it was directed at us. Yet we use this term instead of calling that behaviour whatbit is. Often its used for men, ink those in priviliged positions that hold power over others

We have antivirals available if needed. You're probably aware that more RATs (52.7% of 1,141 vs 14.8% PCRs FluTracking survey participants) are done for COVID-19 self-testing than PCRs. For #flu, the survey doesn't report RAT data, but 10.3% with new fever and cough used a PCR.

NOTE: July only stopped adding decent numbers a few days ago, so August's total will increase by some amount in the coming days. How much is anyone's guess. The July➡️August totals show a slowish decline off the peak. Still lots of #flu around. Tight-fitting P2 or N95 masks help if you're worried
