Many NYC area burritos are influenced by the Mission style - most any big, oversized burrito is considered part of that lineage

Quite a departure from Shirer reporting on Nazi Germany through the very same Columbia Broadcasting System Fun fact: company leadership at the time refused to broadcast news from Europe until he forced their hand by getting a scoop on the Austrian invasion+capitulation, and broadcasting it anyways!

Alas, if not for DOGE I would still have a job in the city itself and me/my friends wouldn't have needed to all scramble to find new jobs. Life could have been so, so much different had they not literally gone and arbitrarily destroyed the futures of me and all my friends.

Back in January, I talked with friends and we all wrote down red lines that we worried this administration might cross in the coming years. This is one that I came up with. The idea that the president can murder 11 people and make up the justification - the founding fathers didn't want this!

Visited family in ND earlier this month. Not a SINGLE train of soybeans has gone west yet (normally gets put on ships to China in the PNW). If shipments don't start going out soon, they're going to have to start throwing away last year's crop to make room for the new stuff coming in!

Like rural areas so far have inflicted their own demise, but they've retained a base of relatively wealthy farmers in many places. Right now we prop them up with FDR-era supports, but what happens when there's simply too much wheat/corn/beans for the market and prices plummet?
Defenestration (@madwonk.bsky.social) reply parent
The basic assumptions about a lot of rural america/agriculture is also going to be challenged in the coming decades. Markets are closing to the US, population is leveling off/shrinking in many countries, and we simply won't need as much farmland. Plus other countries are improving their ag too.
