I had this thought when reading too. Very Trump like - but even then saw the hope in the fact that all tyrants are the same and all eventually fall. Loved that it was a child that brought him down. Crows and cats but also children are wise and we should listen to them.

The message about regret was the most powerful for me. The idea that we are comparing our current life with an ideal of another life - really freed me to live in this one.

Kleenex is often used to refer to any kind of tissue and I imagine the ziplock reference is more about wanting reclosable bags vs the fold over and tuck style of sandwich bags.
I bet the ziplock refers to reclosable bags more than the actual brand. Some sandwich bags have the fold over close thing and those aren’t helpful in the classroom.

I think this connected to the idea that teachers should work beyond contract hours. We do it as a ministry and how do you monetize that kind of care? So if we really care we’ll do free work.
Just watched one video of police walking an elderly veteran in handcuffs away from a protest against the military parade followed by a video of Pete Buttigieg talking about delivering a flag to family of a soldier who died in the line of duty. The dissonance is jarring.
What’s the difference between these 2 charts? They title and labeling say the same thing.
This is helpful to hear in the sense that it grounds me in the fact that not everyone is against what’s happening in LA. I’m not on any other social media so reading responses here can give me a skewed perspective on where everyone stands.

My school in CPS needs a gym teacher. It’s a pk-8 school on the west side. CPS starting salary for 1st yr teachers is 67k. Great pension. Strong union. I love living in Chicago. Come work with me.

Such a strange thing when the pillars of your childhood - the adults you loved and looked up to - begin to diminish and pass on. Grandparents, uncles, aunts. You expect it of course. But it’s like watching the edge of the world fall away.

I have an autoimmune blood disorder. My symptoms are different every time I relapse & can look like other things. I don’t go to the ER bc they check everything else before they take blood. If I’m relapsing I could lose consciousness b4 they get to bloodwork on their checklist. Even when I tell them.

In the early 2000s I was teaching 6th grade in Chicago. Bernadine Dorhn came to my class to talk about her time working for MLk. She told this story. I have retold it so many times. One of the best stories!

This shows the consequences of chasing quick fixes. No curriculum, program, AI, or other version of snake oil will help students embrace reading and literacy like a librarian. As society continues to devalue human beings in favor of easy answers, our kids, especially the most vulnerable, will pay.
