I'm a gardener. A lot of insects live in the grass and the birds eat them. Birds are bioindicators - living monitors for air, water and soil pollution. Also may be more cost efficient to hire landscapers to do this. Many immigrants used to do this type of work.

Yes, I live in a big city and your experience resonates with mine. While rescuing birds, I've been approached by homeless people in the city asking if I'm okay. It was genuine. They just wanted to know if I was okay. Also they were maybe a little worried for the bird or needed directions.
