Good evening Andy. First chance I’ve had today, to look at Bluesky.
I read quite a bit of Biggles as a kid, probably between the ages of about 9 to 12. Square jawed, upright chap, very much one for defending the Empire against the machinations of sinister foreigners.

It is extraordinary how much it will be celebrated. At 10 this morning, I was dong a stock take, “there’s vodka, red wine, should I get beer, what about a playlist”. You won’t last long with that amount of people ill wishing you.
A nice nostalgic listen, still holds up very well and Peace Train is as relevant a song now as it was then.
“I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac”. A devastating line about the end of youthful idealism. A great song.
Everything about Virginia Astley, her name, visual aesthetic and album titles just says English dream pop. This is a woman who made an album called “From Gardens Where We Feel Secure”and, if memory serves, was in a band called The Ravishing Beauties.

Good afternoon. Here’s my Token 2, something a little different: the great Paul Brady singing The Creel, which begins “As I roved out on a moonlit night” and rounding it off with his own tune, “Out The Door And Over The Wall”.
I’m also a regular listener, his show makes mornings much more bearable. Politically, based on no evidence at all, I’d have him down as middle of the road Fianna Fail.
My understanding is that FG councillors have already been given their riding instructions and they are to support Heather Humphries, while giving no hearing to any other prospective candidate.
I share your concern, but I don’t see a scenario in which she can get enough votes. FG won’t break ranks, not with their candidate already in place and I’m assuming that FF will come to the conclusion that they cannot sit this one out.
I still don’t see where the nomination comes from. It would require large numbers of FF and FG councillors to disobey the party whip. FG already have their candidate and, ironically, Steen’s attempted run might stiffen FF’s sinews regarding running a candidate.
It is mainly about publicity and undoubtedly there is a cohort there who would support her.

He was extraordinarily volatile. To this day, I’ve no idea why I spoke to him. I was a big fan and was very aware it could have gone badly.
He played a gig in a small venue not far from where I live. Afterwards he and the band came into the bar. Went up to him and said how much his music meant to me. He was really nice and not at all like his reputation.
He was a genius, while also being the greatest bollox who ever wore shoe leather. The only time I ever spoke to him was the last time I ever saw him play and I can’t do without him.
Went in and sent on my way.My parents were good parents, but not good at parenting, if you know what I mean. I don’t blame them, it was a difficult time.

You may be surprised to learn that Marty is a big CMAT fan. She was interviewed on his show earlier this week and he’ll be playing tracks from the album all next week. He’s a big supporter of Irish artists.

Having worked in the area of copyright for a fair bit of my life, I’d say that’s the issue. The power lies with the acts, particularly the headliners, who can simply say no. Here, we’re inclined to talk as if RTE and BBC have equivalent weight, when they really don’t.
They have their reflective side. I believe the song is about the death of the singer’s father. They have another song in a similar vein “Hope You Had The Time Of Your Life “which is popular here with students leaving secondary school ( high school ) to go on to the next phase of their lives.

They became whatever they became, but I was lucky enough to see them in fairly small venues in and around the time of that album and they were magnificent.

Ireland is not short of singer songwriters, but she is throwing down the gauntlet to all of them to up their game.
It seems to be an attempt to force someone/anyone else in FF to stand. I’d class him as fairly traditional FF, who still holds to the view of them as a “ great national movement “.
Not her target demographic at all, but she’s great. I’d almost like Ahern to run, just to hear that song on massively heavy rotation.

Rod’s early solo albums are a great reminder of his talents as a songwriter and interpreter of other people’s songs, before he turned into a walking parody of himself. For reasons buried in the long ago, I have a great fondness for “You Wear It Well”.

Indeed, once you reach a certain age, the close up is not your friend. A strategy I have learned from the younger demographic is to never allow a photo of myself to appear online until it has been run through every piece of editing software the phone possesses.
I honestly think it is evolutionary. The younger generation have developed longer arms and no longer need selfie sticks.
As we say in Ireland, the crowd are giving it socks.
