When a con bounces a vendor, they have a cop on hand to make sure the vendor doesn’t get violent or do anything to the staff or facility. It’s standard operating procedure.

I’ll write up the events that transpired from my perspective once I’m home from Atlanta. The Bleeding Cool article leaves a bit out and sensationalizes a bit. I’m surprised they didn’t bother getting a comment from any dragon con staff.

✏️ Happy Labor Day! 🖌️ Did you know that AI “art” is labor theft? Hi. I’m a professional traditional artist of over 15 years & I was able to make a decent living until 3 years ago. In May 2023, over 50 of my paintings had been scraped without my consent to fuel AI image generators like Midjourney.
She was there during set up, so I’d say she was complicit in using her name and work to book the spot.

Dragon Con is one of my favorite shows (definitely top two), and the Comics and Pop Artist Alley staff and volunteers are a big part of that. Jamey, Jo, Jesse and their crew are amazing.
Kudos to the wonderful folks who runDragonCon's artist alley. Not only does Jamie and his amazing team always bend over backwards to help us out and make us feel welcome, they demonstrated their integrity by escorting an AI seller who had faked a portfolio to get in off the premises. 1/

Cons are private events with their own codes of conduct, and violating that is grounds for removal. He violated the code of conduct by selling AI garbage in artist alley & was removed.
This is probably a good place to note that if you subscribe to @aimod.social, it will automatically label all AI images, and even accounts that post AI imagery too frequently. Super helpful for me as I need to get new glasses.

A10 got shut down (yeah!!!!!) but Mr mulligan is still selling and telling artists who warn his customers “jealousy stinks”.
For folks at Dragon Con, the artist alley booths to avoid are A10, Oriana Gerez, and D2, James C Mulligan. The first seems to be a shell company with little online presence and the second is an ex-Disney artist. Both are being accused of selling works with Gen ai.

I have told the AA head about both of them. He said that he was going to “run it up the chain.” I’m hoping, at the very least, they get blacklisted from this show.
The Disney guy has AI on his socials (but also a lot of non-AI so it’s confusing if you don’t know what you’re looking for), the other doesn’t have any on socials or website, so couldn’t have been caught before. Which sucks.
There are two (that I know of) in the Artist Alley. One is right next to me and the other is near the back of the room next to the panel rooms. I looked at their online presences & one of them is a big name “Disney artist” and the other is a no name gallerist.

True story: years ago, I was walking with a friend in KC when a panhandler came up to us and asked for money. My friend gave him a dollar and said “sorry I don’t have more - we’re artists.” The guy, without missing a beat, gives it back and goes “you need this more than I do.” And walks away.
