Yes. It feels like a binary statement: save self at the expense of others, but it's not like that, for me, anyway. I learned that small actions of self-care, carving out my space, helped me show up more solid for my dad and family. Leaning on others to help support and lift me up was also healing.

I think most states do (Massachusetts definitely does) but I believe they rely heavily on federal funding.
One of my harder career lessons. You can have a toolbox full of the best mechanisms and frameworks but they won't work if they don't embody your team's thinking and ethos. Thanks for sharing. I think this is probably one of the biggest pitfalls design leaders can fall into.

I did that after moving a few times and getting sick of hauling all of my books. Had a 1 bookcase rule and everything else was digital. Now I have my own digital bookstore and am considering a brick & mortar bookstore. There's nothing more comforting to me than being surrounded by books.

I’m of the mind that every single person living in the US right now could benefit from therapy! I found a grief therapist who helped me navigate, process. Therapy didn’t fix me but helped me not implode on myself.

Sorry you're going through this with your father. My dad was in hospice in 2019 and I was in a similar situation. In retrospect, I should've taken FLMA because I was a barely functioning foggy mess of a human for a while. Self care right now is everything.

"performative smartness" - that so perfectly names it. That's every Microsoft meeting I was in. I do feel like I have to post there because I'm job hunting but I try to at least post about things I'm genuinely thinking about (usually AI-based). But design LinkedIn is generally pretty tedious IMO.
