Actually, you "hit" mountains 45 minutes in on the Trans Canada Hwy west of Calgary. Edmonton fans are crazy loud; always watch parties in every pub & restaurant. Jasper National Park is approx. 3.5 hours west of Edmonton on the Yellowhead Hwy. It's a beautiful drive
