Andrew Mountcastle (@mounty.bsky.social) reply parent
...and it sounds like you've had past experiences that reinforce your concerns. I've probably been lucky to have avoided any problems to be honest.
Andrew Mountcastle (@mounty.bsky.social) reply parent
I've lived in a few places in Maine where I haven't locked my doors. I really enjoy not having to reach for my keys every time I enter my house, and it also comes in handy when I ask friends/neighbors to check on something, drop something off, etc. But I totally get your standpoint as well...
Andrew Mountcastle (@mounty.bsky.social) reply parent
Yikes! Thatās really disheartening. I canāt remember exactly where you live but I recall rural by most standards, right?
Andrew Mountcastle (@mounty.bsky.social) reply parent
I'd love to see stats on percentage of residents in every town who regularly lock their house/vehicles. I bet you could identify a threshold that would serve as a pretty good proxy for what many would consider "rural".

Great shot, Tom! Male Bombus typically also have white/yellow face patches (as this one does), while the females have black faces.
Andrew Mountcastle (@mounty.bsky.social) reply parent
Bumblebee colonies have a less rigid hierarchical structure than honeybee colonies, but the drones from each pretty much have the same job description: find a queen and mate with her. They donāt do any helpful work for the colony.

(But you can get a small battery-powered pump, if you get tired of dealing with the manual pump.)
Andrew Mountcastle (@mounty.bsky.social) reply parent
Totally! I've also discovered that I find standing while paddling much more comfortable than sitting upright in a kayak for long periods of time (probably just a personal pref). We have a manual pump for inflating it, and the one caveat I'll say is that it is a WORKOUT inflating it every time.
Andrew Mountcastle (@mounty.bsky.social) reply parent
We've had an inflatable paddle board for a few years now and it's been fantastic! As you say: easy to transport, easy to store, and impressively rigid when fully inflated. Drop stitch manufacturing is really incredible.

Wow. If this is representative of her thinking on her feet, it's pretty clear why she doesn't dare hold town hall meetings anymore. And it also highlights the extent to which the Maine press has been protecting her by never actually challenging her with direct, potentially uncomfortable questions.

Yes, I'm sure that is the calculus. Harvard is at least fighting for the time being through litigation (despite publicly floating a $500 million settlement). Columbia...not so much (and they threw a bunch of their students under the bus). My point is simply that there is also a cost to rolling over
