Playing it now, it's excellent, and I absolutely appreciate the lack of self knowing 'nudge nudge wink wink weren't the 90s mad eh' humour. Easily up there with Dusk/Cultic as far as classic fps games go. Like Quake 2 fused with a Clive Barker novel.
I got the same stink off that one as I did Far Cry Blood Dragon.
Super impressed by the tone, atmosphere etc. No self knowing shit like in Turbo Overkill. So far at least.
If you want an idea as to the tone of this one, I just flushed a toilet and it filled up again with blood, and a skull floated up, looking at me.

Back in the days of Napster, a song floated around that people thought was System of a Down. It became well known but a lot of people never knew who the real artist was. Fast forward to today, the group themselves officially released it on a 7" vinyl (recycled variant)
The structure is similar, mooch around a mansion, solve puzzles, open doors to parallel worlds etc. Not as grim as Eternal Darkness, but the fact it gave me the feeling...
I think the house stuff, the puzzles and the way the game unlocks from that central hub is the good shit. Stick a few roaming zombies in them hallways and you'd have a better Resi than most recent ones.
I kind of appreciate how the stalker enemy is very easily avoidable, and leaves you to your own devices unless you actively want to run into it
The ending was wild too. No real gore to speak of for 99 percent of the game amd then... 'oh, that lad got pulled in half'. Good puzzles too, make you feel like a clever clogs.

Just completed Alone In The Dark 2024. I think I prefer it to the new Resident Evil stuff. Only one bit with a very easily avoidable shit stalker enemy.

I woulDn't say I regret getting my Switch 2, Mario Kart is fine, and Donkey Kong is very good, but I could have probably waited a bit.
I like how some big studios and indies couldn't get Switch 2 dev kits, but the people that did that mad campfire game with the big stupid camera faces got one. Classic Nintendo.

Sucks about Brent Hinds. First time I ever heard Mastodon was on a relapse records sampler in 2003, and I went out to get Remission the very next day. Huge influence on me, and a gateway to loads of more aggressive sludge/noise.
