Oh my.
Sometimes I muse. A man's man in the streets, an options trader in the sheets. Foul-mouthed. Christian.

I've been very tuned in to Dalio and Hatzius for the last 4 years. They are effectively designated drivers for a country and economy drunk on political hysteria.

Conceptually, there's a lot of history to kind of show this pattern. California is an example: hollowed out middle class, fewer job prospects outside of a set handful of industries. A recipe for asset price inflation and bubbles.

There is a part of me that will always keep saying that America deserves everything that is happening to it. At some point you just have to let everyone touch the stove.

Under certain circumstances Moran would be right - when they're very low and not on production inputs. But in the clown show of tariffs being 50% or above on industrial inputs...yeah, no.

I still enjoyed reading this FWIW despite the snarky headline that must certainly have been rage bait for this site. We don't always see eye to eye on some things. But I do think focusing on the clarity of your arguments and less of the fights/rage bait is a good path forward.

I implore Bluesky: when people say stuff about Massie being "the worst person they know making good points", my response is: "Are you living under a rock?!" Just look at all the god-awful people in Congress and government right now. Sure, he ain't AOC, but he's far from the worst person I know.

All this resonates with me. Learning to love learning is a big theme here. I fear cognitive decline and it's temptations, but that's where good parenting comes in. Learning to love life can be hard for a kid these days, but it's vital.

Everyone craps on Apple for being behind in the AI game. Truth is, with open source models growing at a faster pace via places like Hugging Face, it's never been cheaper for Apple to build their own models without the insane investment of a frontier LLM.

If BTC still existed as Satoshi hoped it would, yes. It would be a currency. But now it is treated as store-of-value capital and it's ownership is concentrating further. Not quite gold yet, but headed there.

I do remember him calling for the Fed to front rate cutting from a "strategic" standpoint in early 2023. I want to say that this take was probably off as well, though if he's leaning into the employment side of the dual mandate, perhaps I sort of get it. But there's no way DJT would stop at Powell.
Musings, Sometimes (@musings-sometimes.bsky.social) reply parent
I respect Mohammed for a lot of reasons, but his take is completely off. We all know that DJT operates from a starting point of maximalism. That is utterly clear wherever you look.

Parting unsolicited advice before I take a break: There needs to be a path from anger to clarity here for a lot of you (and myself included). Otherwise it's not gonna be good for all of us long term. I'll echo the oracle: be nice to each other. The world will be better for it.

It's cauterized by tech leadership's anthropomorphization of AI (when it's just a very, very good pattern matcher). For so long these autists have basically been telling their employees that we're building something that is going to make you all irrelevant. What did they think would happen.

Klein's comment on GPT-5 being a "dud" isn't because it flat out sucks. It's quite great as far as an LLM is concerned. The dud part is really from it being oversold as AGI.

Au contraire, I do think there's an element of tech hype, but you're right about it mostly being revenue hype. For example - the dying down of AGI talk, and it really finding most of it's uses in coding applications vs. an omni-tech it has been touted as
