Sorry for saying this in so many words. But the idea that votes are just numbers and not people is part and parcel of why the dems lose against the stupidest people on the right.

The idea that voters can be broken into thirds (dems, gop, nv) leads to the idea that non voters don't vote at all versus that non voters don't feel seened by either party. This is shown clearly in schumer's infamous remark.
Trump has won when, not only did his platform work towards the republican base, but the dem's candidate did not match the democratic base. Pockets withholding their votes loudly historically mattered up until consultant brain took over.
So first off, not until now has national polling been mentioned. My take has been national polling is full of noise and not fundamentally useful. The point I am making is that the closer a presidental platform is to the voice, the higher the likelihood of that person winning is.
