It's been hard for *me* to find, anyway. I try to look to the source, when people say stuff like this, and to me this guy is a nobody. I've never heard of him. He has no power and no sway. That's why I want to know who asked the question at the presser - they're the instigator there.
We give people's words credibility when we repeat them. But also, I am also trans, and I don't think living in constant terror is productive. I also don't think waiting for horrible things to become real is productive, to be clear. I think there's a line through the middle and it's hard to find.

I absolutely follow journalists on their newsletters (and pay for a few) just because I can't trust the papers to actually publish what they write. I don't think that many people go that far though, because like you said, people really want easy to read news, easily accessed, and free.
not that this administration minds destroying trust in an organization, of course, but it does make the headlines more important. because the CDC are still the good guys at this point, and they can't leverage that if they destroy it, so, hmm. it's an interesting problem, for them.
