Yes, we need tactically trained, fast, tough, enforcers sometimes. It's policing ffs. But that personality does not usually go together with discernment, knowledge/ adherence to law, compassion etc.
Something I have long thought about came from an old Heinlein book: Separate the badge and the gun. Essentially, a highly trained lawyer holds the badge and has culpability, authority. Each badge is assigned some muscle.
The lies' laughable implausibility is a feature, not a bug. They're not trying to convince discerning, skeptical, fact-based people. They're trying to give supporters a fantasy that validates their feelings and creates a sort of loyalty test, while flaunting the absurdity in everyone else's faces.
