I’m not going to say Vance and Hegseth aren’t Christians (they’re just really bad Christians), but the whole “come get your people” line makes as much sense as me smugly telling an Indonesian Muslim friend to come get her people after the House of Saud commits a human rights violation
Lethal force against a civilian vessel in international waters is a war crime if not in self-defense. If not in self-defense, only non-lethal actions, such as warning shots or disabling fire, are allowed. "Not yielding to pursuers" or "suspected of carrying drugs" doesn't carry a death sentence.
Louisiana has refused to reconsider the conviction of the more than 1000, mostly Black, men sentenced by split juries — even though the Supreme Court ruled that those convictions are based on an inherently racist law

I believe God is the only one that has justification to determine someone's life, He is the one who gave us life. For Him to exercise that on humans is different from life being taken by other humans. Religious and non-religious people have free will and are able to say anything -

Humans invented the guns & the bullets, mass produced them, innovated them to be more efficient at killing, lobbied for them, were the politicians that blocked gun control & mental health efforts, were the voters that saw this and kept voting for them, etc. Seems like humans did this.

James 2:7 says "Faith without works is dead". This is a distraction from children dying and using my Saviour's name just to shield the people responsible from criticism.
Again: Faith leaders *themselves* have long also criticized "thoughts and prayers" rhetoric — including leader's Leavitt's own Catholic tradition. Here are some examples from the past 24 hours, including a statement from Sisters of Mercy of the Americas (Catholic nuns) on the shooting.

When people talk about North Korea in this context they're not talking about North Korean people. They're talking about the North Korean government which is famously authoritarian.
i do feel like i'm going insane about the "cell phones in schools" stuff because when i was in high school, lots of kids had flip phones by that time (2004-2008). the rule was that it's not supposed to be out during the academic day, it's supposed to be in your locker or backpack. this... worked

I could talk about specific theology. But I believe that if someone's successful in following Jesus' teachings and example (even though no human is 100%) of loving us unconditionally to take our sins to the Cross, they believe LGBTQ people are just as valuable, and fully honestly act accordingly.

We believe God is the creator of life and death, and that death isn't the end. It's not the same as a human killing somebody because God has a plan for us including us passing one day, whether that's from old age or from something supernatural. If we didn't, the world would have too many people.
and this is bigger than just the South there is no major successful agitation for social justice in American history that does not include meaningful work and agitation by leftie religious folk

A person with a specific belief doing bad things isn't inheritly the fault of the belief. The USSR practically enforced atheism but the actions of the USSR aren't the fault of every single atheist. And I don't see how your second paragraph is relevant. It seems like just an assumption.

I get what you mean about humans helping one another, but you don't provide a reason as to why that is in spite of belief in God. Humans do have some capability of morality. But we also fail to be moral often. Much of the evil in this world comes from humans.

Since we believe God is our Creator, of course we believe we need help from God. Without Him we don't exist. The problem of evil has been discussed. God gave us free will and of course that means people do bad things. But we believe our suffering on earth is temporary.

Also not really related. If something (like an aspect of the most valued beliefs of John Brown, Dorothy Day, St. Oscar Romero, Rev. MLK, Malcolm X, and many others) is conservative to you it's conservative to you. I was arguing that not a vast majority of churches willingly serve GOP interests.

There's things that I believe present a case for God, like the fine tuning of the universe, while there's nothing that I believe presents a compelling *enough* case against it. I'm not arguing for that reasoning, but what I'm trying to argue is that that characterization is not the full truth.

The case the person you're replying to has is sad, but this is a little big of a conclusion to make. There's plenty of secular and probably some atheist spaces that are guilty of tiptoeing around important subjects. People just do that unfortunately.

I have to think "vast majority" is a big overstatement. There's ECLA while having conservative membership is pretty liberal on the leadership level, there's churches serving minority groups that take roles as pillars of solidarity and providing a space where they know they are equal,

I could argue that inaction on abortion is parallel to forcing the belief that unborn life isn't important onto the life being aborted.
I will never forget visiting Stateville prison for the first time and being told by guards not to drink the water because it wasn't safe, or how hot it got in the rooms where we were working with students. I felt like I was being cooked, but I was only there for a few hours at a time.

Seperation of church and state doesn't mean politicians have to pretend to be atheist. Establishing laws or using power/funds that favor or purposefully hurt specific beliefs groups is problematic. Democratically elected politicians are allowed to be active in a faith or talk to people in a church.
