You don’t suppose there were some Israelites who said “I’m not worshipping that calf, I’m just hoping to get enough grain for my table and maybe buy my wife some myrrh for our anniversary if only I could afford it.”

It seems to me this is pretty much the entire point of the Declaration of Independence. Or, as Jefferson put it, “the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” Those last two crucial words are often left out of Jefferson’s quote.

He used a college draft deferment, which the law allowed, then enlisted in the army national guard. All perfectly legal at the time. At least he wore the uniform, and didn’t claim he had bone spurs or childhood asthma. I’m no fan of Bolton, but I don’t think that makes him a draft dodger.

Even though I grew up a Detroit fan, and was a right handed hitter, I always copied Yaz’s stance when I batted. He sure looks good for 86.

Article I, section 4 gives Congress the power to pass laws regulating Congressional elections. That does not give the President any power at all, nor does it make the States agents of the federal government.
Not Ralph Malph (@notralphmalph.bsky.social) reply parent
“The states are merely an “agent” for the federal government.” No, the states are sovereign entities which run their own elections to select their representatives in Congress.

As much as we romanticize the anti-war protests of the 60’s, remember that they led to the election and reelection of Richard Nixon. Chaos and unrest — even if provoked by an unjust war or by ICE thugs — does not win over average voters. This plays into the hands of MAGA. Gandhi and MLK were right.

Suppose the Democrats had pushed a “codify Roe” bill to a vote, which would not have passed due to a few anti-choice Democrats in the House and a Republican filibuster in the Senate.
