Agree. A gross receipts tax is a bad tax. Much better to tax net Income (income tacx) or consumption (sales tax). Taxing marginally profitable or unprofitable businesses makes no sense.

90% marginal tax rate + unwritten social compact in 1950s & 60s kept executive pay in check. 1970s oil shock + Vietnam War gave us Reagan in 1980. Since then, exec pay has soared while economic performance has been below 1950s-1960s (and even 1970s) levels.
