Eventually his bestie Saint figures it out and rescues him. The book is very much about how this trauma shapes their lives and obsessions. Many many meaningful plot twists and turns, none of which I saw coming. My only criticism is the pale may be a little tightly woven. So many tied up ends I fear

There is a predator who attempts to take the girl who has it all and Patch, a one eyed poor boy attacks the predator and gets taken himself
