it was an immediate shockwave. gothic metal rode its way to the mainstream off of HIM and sentenced fusing this sound with alt rock. DSBM developed an identity of its own through its own take on these fuzzy, plodding, repetitive rhythms with pained screams. melodeath took heavily from the leads here
brave murder day brought rhythm to the forefront of metal. yeah those leads are sick but really it's the post-punk drums that drive this alongside the washed out fuzzy guitars (that surprisingly have no shoegaze influence! it's literally HM2, similar to the rest of the stockholm death metal scene)
