There is a useful philosophical technique called Dialectical Thinking that I think is helpful. You take a question or idea and think about it at the same time as you think about its opposite. Why do vegans tell us they're vegan? Why don't I tell people about my dietary preferences?
Jason (@papajason.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh, that wasn't meant to be impolite. Just a statement of fact. Vegans are a social minority. We don't give them much thought because it's not important to us. Any of us The only time we think about it is when a vegan tells us they're vegan. Another purpose of announcing one's veganism is visibility
Jason (@papajason.bsky.social) reply parent
So you feel that vegans are telling people they're vegans to keep them pushed away?
Jason (@papajason.bsky.social) reply parent
You're not getting a consistent answer because it's a socially charged topic. People have string opinions about veganism. Nobody asks why veganism is important to vegans. Vegans post it because it's an important fact about themselves. It's just not important to you.
Jason (@papajason.bsky.social) reply parent
We all communicate about the aspects of ourselves we think are important. So the question really being asked is: "Why do vegans tell the world they're vegan, if I'm not vegan?"
Jason (@papajason.bsky.social) reply parent
Why do people put gay, bi, trans in their profile? To commune with like minded people. When they're attacked and vilified for their beliefs and preferences, their relationships are reinforced by their shared persecution. This is exactly why conservative leadership constantly creates fake boogeymen.
Jason (@papajason.bsky.social) reply parent
Why does anyone put anything in their profile? The human identity is a compilation of personal preferences and beliefs AS WELL AS shared community values. In a world that is outwardly hostile toward vegans, finding others who share your beliefs becomes increasingly important. Sound familiar?

It is interesting, and I think mildly hopeful, to think that a nation of otherwise racist people got together and had a war over slavery. It might not be progressive, but it shows that there are innate limits in human morality and violators actively hide their own shame with verbal smoke and mirrors

I don't think it changes much. Maybe accelerates things a bit. Ultimately the Christian Fundamentalists will make a grab for power. I imagine that will probably be supporting their own candidate when the time comes (they won't back Vance. He's easily bought, but he's not one of them)

A. Democrats aren't liberal. Democrats are moderate conservatives that also feed money and power to their corporate handlers. Far right conservativism and moderate conservativism are the two roads leading to the same place. B. Yes, it's more difficult to build a house where everyone else wants to.

I feel like they'll stick to DC to support the takeover. Occupying a nation as large as the US is logistically impossible. They will try, but first they will secure DC and the halls of power since they believe governmental authority is in the buildings and not the people. Then NY, then Boston.

That's the thing. If you want something more interesting than vodka and juice, the ingredients need to be a bit better quality. I love my people, but when it comes to alcohol we prefer quantity over quality. Vanilla vodka and cranberry tastes exactly like cherry cheesecake for some magical reason.

You're not going to believe me and it will get you some strange looks, but Bourbon and Cranberry is really good. A decent bourbon is a plus but bottled cranberry juice is required. Juices on the soda gun and flavorless sugar syrups. You can add a squeeze of lime too.
