Unfortunately, in the lifetime of anyone reading this, you will not reverse the reputational damage both at home and abroad, or regain the loss of experience in governance. The damage is done. The US is going to auger in.
I think it would be hard to prevent anyone with a foreign passport from leaving, but there could be a tax on assets held by foreigners (especially non-business assets), tax on deemed disposition, or even seizure / forfeiture of assets held by foreigners. As in, you can leave but without your money.
And in an unrelated matter, less than 50% of Americans can read above a grade 6 level.

Canadian here. We’ve had a winter home in California for 15 years & spent over $50k annually on restaurants, clothing, entertainment & travel. We sold last month & likely won’t return in our lifetime (20+ yrs). Extrapolate that out … over $1M lost. We’re tip of the iceberg. Many more yet to come.
