To narcissists, everything is a competition that they have to win. Most people with a desire to lead in any field do so by striving to be the best. Narcissists try to establish a lead by holding their competitors back (ideally permanently).
The only lens narcissists view the world thru is “How does this benefit me”. Trump doesn’t see how NASA research benefits HIM personally, so he concludes that it’s of no benefit to anyone. In fact, it’s worse than that - If anything benefits anyone OTHER than Trump, his instinct is to destroy it.
Agreed. He’s basically Trump. Who was chosen as US President *twice*. Logic fails as soon as the electorate gets involved 😕.

Does anyone hire security to follow them everywhere specifically TO attract attention and make themselves feel like a big-shot? Then again, if you were doing that, I don’t imagine you’d bring them into the men’s bathroom with you.

He was the best in the world at many things, but definitely not quite as great at others. Wish he had left the job of making movies and concert videos to the pros. I floated about around the production edges of some of his UK live shows in his last few years, and oh the stories 🤦♂️.
Tho I would argue that Gonna Be A Beautiful Night from SOTT is THE best song performance captured on film by any artist ever. Absolutely breathtaking.
Stop Making Sense is a Talking Heads live film. And if anyone wants to claim it’s the greatest concert film of all time, they’d get no argument from me. Still totally captivating 40 years later.
SOTT is pretty sharp on that German blu-ray. It’s only U Got The Look where it gets ropey as hell - inevitably, since it’s the promo, not live, and shot on standard def video. So incongruous against the rest of the footage. Thinking they could pass it off as a “dream sequence” was a lazy solution.
Maybe meant the only *Prince* concert movie. But yes. AND there is a fantastic (and fantastically expensive) release of Stop Making Sense on disc from A24. Knowing how things go with the Prince estate, I would not suggest anyone holds their breath for an equally great release of Sign Of The Times.

I did do a live session for TV with Hurts, but that was a long time ago, hadn’t quite dawned on me that they were still playing.
At least that was 5 more gigs than a lot of folk. I appreciate how lucky we were in the UK to see as much of him as we did. I lost count of how many gigs, but it was almost 30 years of it. Should have kept those tickets… A lot of great memories, especially some of the batshit crazy aftershows.

Have fun, I’m sure it’ll be great. Saw it a couple of times in cinemas in 87, even those prints weren’t in great condition. Hope one day it’ll get a proper re-scan, remix and remaster. I believe the German blu-ray is currently the best home version avail and it’s def not perfect.
It already has (made a comeback) in terms of what available. The studios and the boutique labels are both doing amazing releases now. A comeback in sales volume would be helpful too… I think interest is picking up as ppl rediscover concepts like “ownership” and “collecting” 🙂
Put Blu-ray Disc in Blu-ray player. Press play. Short of a power cut, this is painless, near-infallible, and importantly will remain so for years to come. Meanwhile, streaming…

So US movie friends, the chance to import any of our UK-exclusive 4K and Blu-ray discs, at reasonable cost, is gone. At least for the time being. All packages now get tariffs applied, regardless of value. That tariff could easily be $80, even for one disc. Don’t wanna to say I warned you, but…

It’s not the flag that’s intimidating, it’s the people that worship it. Most of the violence I’ve seen “on the streets” has been from people that try to hide behind the St George Cross. As if that flag gives them the right to terrorise anyone with darker skin than theirs.
Lesson learned: Next time I need a pile of specialist plumbing supplies I will set aside a week to source and order them, and do it a month in advance of the job, so I can get everything collected/delivered without being driven ABSOLUTELY INSANE AGAIN.

I turn on BBC News and they’re showing continuous live coverage of a Reform Party press conference. Reform, who have four MPs. That’s a whole 0.6% of the House Of Commons. The Liberal Democrats have 72 MPs. When was the last time there’s was live TV coverage of an entire Lib Dem press conference?
If America can’t (or won’t) enforce its own constitution, what hope is there for a “code of conduct”? We’re so slow to wake up to what’s going on, it’s usually too late by the time we do.

I have a couple of guitars worth about the same as my A7C & a decent lens. And I have a 12-string electric that cost exactly what the GO Ultra costs. The expensive guitars are lovely, but when the song calls for a 12-string Jazzmaster, they’re useless.
Or if I suddenly need a super-wide angle shot, and don’t have time to change lenses on the A7, I can just grab it with my iPhone. You can’t really tell. A tool like that makes the difference between getting the shot and not getting it.
And I can put an iPhone in places I’d never dream of putting my A7C. If you need that shot looking up out of a small muddy hole in the ground, that’s how you do it.
Yeah, not really. Modern action cameras and even phone cameras are much better than you might imagine. I often cut iphone footage into full-frame Sony footage, and its not that obvious.
To me, video cameras are just like guitars - you get one, and it’s great, and you can play some songs, but you quickly discover things it WON’T do… and before you know it you have eight guitars.
These are wildly different cameras, at different price points, designed for different applications. I can’t clip my BGH-1 to my jacket and wander down the street. Maybe that’s the real problem with the BGH-1?
After a week’s solid effort, I’ll admit the end result is underwhelming.

Plus, once you go to m43, you end up wishing it was full-frame… and the size/weight penalty you pay going from m43 to full-frame is fairly negligible. But the change in the “look” is huge. m43 is great for some things, but it falls into a bit of a no-man’s-land for video IMO.
But if you make the sensor much bigger the lens needs to be a lot bigger too. The point of the GO is to make it as small as possible. I wouldn’t mind a micro 4/3 action camera, but that said I already kind of have one, (a BGH-1), and it’s big, so it can’t do what the GO does.
