We can forgive past mistakes. My fear is some people see an opportunity for power by saying what people want to hear...as a grift. If your past mistake was a noxious grift it's at least one red flag - not necessarily a full on problem, but certainly a flag.
As with most Nicholas Cage movies, I really don't rate him, but the films are usually good fun.
