The other night I got up at 3am to pee and a gigantic spider ran out into the middle of the room and I had to jump into the shower stall. I considered if there was any possibility of jumping over it to get to the exit, but no! I had to call for rescue.
I feel stupid about it now but I really thought that men in America would stand up for their wives and daughters and protected their rights in the last election. But that didn’t happen. Now we are watching them come for the brown people, the homeless people, the rainbow folk and on and on.

This is one of those things, like making women’s reproductive rights law, that the democrats could have tried to do when they had power. But they wanted to keep these issues to run on and hung us out to dry. There is zero point to demanding this from a GOP controlled government.

I enjoyed this book so much. It is not often I fill the margins of my books with so many notes. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on blind Willie McTell! I’m sort of tempted to get the three volume set for easier portability.

That is such a weird idea. I don’t believe in so many gods. I find no difference in my disbelief in Vishnu or Thor or whatever gods and goddesses I have never heard off I think this term says more about you than me.

I spent the last 20 years teaching my children that it is better to be kind than right. That when you don’t know what to do the kind choice is never the wrong choice. And now they see that the people who prioritize cruelty seem to be winning at every turn and I don’t know what to say to them.
I never dreamed I would see the concentration camps being built in my country in my lifetime. How will we ever learn to live with all the evil we let happen?
