The Pacman Nebula, officially known as NGC 281, is an emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. It is named for its resemblance to the classic 1980s video game character. This vast cloud of ionized gas is a star-forming region located approximately 9,200 light-years away in our galaxy's Perseus Spiral Arm. The Andromeda Galaxy (M31) is the closest major spiral galaxy to our own Milky Way, located about 2.5 million light-years away. It is the largest and most massive member of the Local Group of galaxies, which includes the Milky Way, Andromeda, the Triangulum Galaxy, and about 50 other smaller galaxies. NGC 1027 is an open star cluster located in the constellation Cassiopeia. Discovered by William Herschel in 1787, it appears visually positioned between the famous Heart and Soul nebulae, though it is not physically associated with them The Pleiades, or M45, is a dazzling open star cluster located in the constellation Taurus. The average distance at apogee is about 405,500 km (252,000 miles) when the Moon appears about 12% smaller when it is compared to when it is at perigee. The Moon's gravitational influence on Earth is weaker at apogee, which results in weaker tidal effects.

The Heart and Soul Nebulae neighbours - captured this morning. When we get more than a couple of hours clear sky I'll try and get both in a single wider field image. #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social

The Heart Nebula, cataloged as IC 1805 and also known as the Running Dog Nebula, is a large, heart-shaped emission nebula and active star-forming region. Located 7,500 light-years away in the constellation Cassiopeia, its characteristic red glow is caused by a small cluster of hot, young stars at its core. The Soul Nebula, also known as IC 1848, Westerhout 5, or the Embryo Nebula, is a vast star-forming region in the constellation Cassiopeia. It is a large, glowing emission nebula that is often photographed alongside its famous neighbour, the Heart Nebula (IC 1805)

The Andromeda galaxy (M31) must be the most popular target for 'smart' scopes from what I've seen here. Taken on Sunday night, this is my third shot and the longest so far. 4 hours of 60 second exposures in EQ mode. #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social

M31 is the Andromeda Galaxy, the nearest major galaxy to our own Milky Way. It is the largest and most massive member of our galactic neighbourhood, known as the Local Group. Under clear, dark skies, it is visible to the naked eye as a faint, fuzzy patch of light and is approximately 2.5 million light-years away from Earth. When you view it, you are seeing light that left the galaxy 2.5 million years ago. M31 is estimated to contain roughly one trillion stars—about twice as many as our galaxy.

It's my birthday today. A very significant one. A fabulous three day family & friends celebration has come to a close. So clear last night before bed & dream time I had to set my scope on the California Nebula. #CaliforniaDreaming #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social

The California Nebula, also known as NGC 1499, is a large, red emission nebula located in the constellation Perseus. It gets its name from its appearance in long-exposure photographs, which resembles the shape of the US state of California. The nebula is situated in the Orion Arm of the Milky Way, approximately 1,000–1,500 light-years away from Earth. It is a large object, spanning about 100 light-years in length and 60 light-years across. From our perspective, this covers an area of the sky about five times the length of the full moon. Three hours of 60 second exposures in EQ mode.

The Horsehead and Flame Nebulae on my first anniversary on Bluesky (check my pinned post)! The pair of deep-sky objects located in the constellation Orion at last are now high enough for an hour of Dwarf smart scope shooting 4-5am #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social

The Horsehead Nebula is a dark nebula—a cold, dense cloud of gas and dust—that blocks light from the glowing emission nebula, IC 434, behind it. It appears as a dark, jagged silhouette resembling a horse's head against the reddish background. The Flame Nebula (NGC 2024 is an emission nebula named for its resemblance to fire. It glows brightly in orange and pink hues and contains filaments of dark dust.

The Pelican Nebula captured overnight. Can you see how it got its name? #astronomy #astrophotography

This image was captured using tge Dwarf 3 scope and converted into mono by me! This photo was taken by anon!

Slept this one out! Too many recent all nighters have taken its toll - fortunately the smart scope was on duty overnight so let's see if it picked anything up!

Good Mooning everyone from the heat haze of London. Another scorcher today! 81.7% waning gibbous to wake up to. #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social

The Moon is currently on its orbit at a close approach to Earth. Approximately 370km away. It'll be more than 30km further by the time it reaches the end of this cycle.

The last standing Sunflower! Every year I grow these giants from seed. Despite the heat/drought/thunderstorms they usually survive till the end of August. Most have now gone to seed so this straggler has a big job to do! @photohour.bsky.social #Sunflowers

Just checked today's forecast for Iceland and Majorca. Of course it means little but I'd steer clear of the first for a number of reasons, great place though it is.

You're very welcome Ann. The best way to appreciate stuff like this is to just look up.
