I lived in Lancaster 1978-1996 and worked in and visited Morecambe countless times. In that time, it went from being a thriving holiday destination to a virtual ghost town. It's a very sad story shared, I would guess, by other Lancashire seaside towns like Blackpool and Southport.

Yes, I became a technical writer, so a knowledge of syntax/grammar came in handy. I also taught English as a foreign language for a while, and phonetics was also very useful there.
