Why's he in jail? π
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
You're the idiot here. Clearly I'm talking about lawsuits and civil/criminal prosecutions, not real estate deals π nobody on earth calls a real estate transaction a "court case".
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
First of all, the word is "lawfare", a portmanteau of "law" and "warfare". Second, the lawfare argument relies on the notion that Trump is completely innocent. What's more likely, that Trump's had dozens of court cases over the years because people just hate him, or because he's actually a criminal?

Bosch was on that good shit π

Only problem: I've gotta live here π¬ btw I've been to most of the states on this list and they all suck. Almost everybody wants to leave, it's just a matter of opportunity.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
My boy β he's been my favorite since the 90s.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
How do you even write satire at this point, when reality is so absurd?
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Fox News, right-wing talk radio, and dumbfuck "Ancient Aliens" type shows really melted people's brains.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
You'll have to remind me what your question is, I'm not sure what you're referring to.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
That's quite literally NOT the kind of race Hogg has said he's talking about, though. He's explicitly said he's not targeting "front-line" members facing tough reelection battles. The stated goal is to target complacent Dems in safe seats in order to revitalize the party.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
This rests on the premise that Manchin and Sinema were uniquely bad, and that there weren't others willing to fill that role if necessary. We certainly need to elect more Democrats, but we ALSO need to primary the Democrats who are useless or actively harmful.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
When did Hogg say he wants "fewer" Democrats? I'm not saying his plans are fully fleshed out, I'd certainly like him to be more articulate. But the core of the idea is to replace these old, indolent, useless Dems with fresh new blood who are willing to fight. Through democratic primaries, btw.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
There aren't enough of them because they suck. They suck in large part because many of their donors don't want progressive policies, so they pay them to suck. Democrats would win more elections if they didn't suck. That's my stance.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Like, how do you think you GET to a Congress that's willing to pass something like that? Not with these do-nothing corporatists who only care about serving their donors.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Build Back Better would have been awesome, it couldn't pass because of exactly the kind of Democratic party politics I'm talking about. How many Democrats were out there running on a platform like that with their whole chest? Instead you get this mealy-mouthed bipartisanship stuff that never works.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
I recognize that things were different then. I also recognize that we've been trying the "triangulation" strategy since Reagan, and it has resulted in our politics slipping further and further to the right, as Republicans continue to push for their agenda and Democrats refuse to fight.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
FDR wasn't perfect by any means. That was a stain on his presidency, no question. How about we push for FDR-style policies, but make it equitable this time? Do you think that's just not possible? Isn't it worth trying? Standard Dem political strategy has lost us EVERYTHING, it's time for a change.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
You mean barely squeaking in by the skin of their teeth, sometimes with margins so thin that they lose the EC even though they win the popular? FDR was our most progressive president ever, won 4 terms, and had supermajorities in both houses. But yeah, let's definitely never try progressivism.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Because real progressivism hasn't been tried in decades, at least nationally. We've been TRYING the "pivot to the center" strategy, and it continues to fail us. It turns out that being halfway between Republican and Democrat makes you not very appealing to anyone as a candidate.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
It's just indicative of Harris's disconnect from regular people, because there IS a group of people who absolutely love Liz Cheney: the establishment elites she surrounds herself with.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Basically every young person was screaming at her to take a stand against the genocide in Gaza, and instead she was like "hey look at my good friend Liz Cheney that absolutely nobody likes."
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Sorry, but it was pretty bad. Harris and Walz came out hot, but quickly pivoted to the standard Democrat playbook that's been failing for ages now: take your own voters for granted, and do everything you can to court Republicans. She passed up so many opportunities to distance herself from Biden.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
The 80s/early 90s were a very wet, greasy time.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Not only would I very much like to become an immigrant and get my ass out of here, at this point I feel like I ought to be considered a refugee!
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Nope. It's like how he doesn't understand that an 'asylum seeker' has nothing to do with insane asylums. He heard the word 'asylum' and conjured a whole narrative of other countries dumping their mental patients into the US. He might be the dumbest person to ever lead a country.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
It makes sense when you realize that he literally doesn't understand what a trade deficit is. He thinks it's like a budget deficit, because he's a complete moron. It's like how he doesn't understand that an 'asylum seeker' has nothing to do with insane asylums.

I think the big difference this time is how D&D is losing its dominance in social media. I remember a bit of drama that happened a couple of years ago with D&D players who did NOT want to hear about other games and resented them being suggested. Influencers seem to be increasingly open to new games.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
That was an election year. It's easy to draw huge crowds as a presidential candidate in an election year. Such huge crowds at a time like this, when nobody is running for anything, indicates a pretty massive upswell in the engagement of the masses.

Pancreatic cancer took my grandma a few years ago. She was doing alright one day, then less than 3 months later she was gone. She was the most wonderful, selfless person I've ever known and probably ever will know.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
This shouldn't be remotely revelatory to the Democrats. If you fight, you can change the narrative? Who woulda thunk it?

Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Prison 42 was pretty fucked. It's too bad the MCU adaptation had to be so toned down. In the comics the pre-registration side especially got up to some sinister stuff.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
She would have done better in a more normal era. Unfortunately for her the nation is in a populist mood, and the Democrats are by and large elitists and not particularly shy about that fact. So are the Republicans for the record, but they at least pretend to be populist, and it works for them.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Boat too big.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
You've got a really twisted idea of what progressivism is, warped by right-wing propaganda and feckless Democrats trying to pander on social issues so they don't have to address economic issues.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
The Democrats lost control because they insisted on shackling the progressives at every turn while courting Liz Cheney style Republicans. The Democrat base is far more sympathetic to progressive messaging than to neoliberal "centrism" aka economic conservatism.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
They are stupid, but it's not a misunderstanding. This is all very calculated, and most of the actual planning was done by people much smarter than the orange clown.

Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
I haven't even had a chance to reply to your previous request for specifics and you're already putting words in my mouth π you have to be a little more subtle with the trolling, dipshit.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Is the problem that the Democrats suck, or is it that I noticed and talked about it? Must be the pesky voters who are the problem, right? Couldn't be incumbent on the candidates to make themselves desirable to the electorate. Nah, we should all shut up and bow before the corporate Dems.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
www.healthinsurance.org/glossary/ind... This is what I mean by "forced into the private market". Rather than provide a public option, they simply required everyone to buy private insurance.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
You're genuinely too stupid to have a conversation with. I VOTED FOR DEMOCRATS. THEY LOST BECAUSE THEY FUCKING SUCK. They're bad at politics, policy, and just plain old relatability. But by all means, keep licking the boots of the failures in the Democratic party and see if anything ever changes.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Who the fuck do you think you're talking to? I voted Democrat in every single election. It's not my fault the Democrats suck so fucking bad that they couldn't even beat a moron like Trump. Neoliberalism is DEAD and the Democrats killed it.

They were terrified of many of the provisions, because like all greedy capitalists they can only think in terms of short-term profits. They ended up profiting enormously from the new paradigm.

Don't get me wrong, the ACA was helpful in its way to me and my family, compared to nothing. But we could have had much better outcomes without the enormous downsides. We could have done what literally every other developed nation does. It's so frustrating.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
"As close as possible" is an absolutely foolish thing to say. The ACA is a huge giveaway to the private insurance industry, it basically forced us all into their ecosystem. We could have had a single payer system if the Democrats had had any desire for such a thing.

Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh sure, they're listening to SOMEONE, but it's their donors, not their constituents. They consistently choose to be 'Republican light', no matter how many times that strategy fails. A person can only watch them bend over backwards begging for Republican support for so long. It's ridiculous.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Not everything has to be perfectly constructive all the time. Plenty of people have been suggesting direction to the Democrats for many years, to little effect. It's not always worth explicitly detailing every one of your policy prescriptions when you're just needing to vent your frustrations.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
It's not bad faith, it's exasperation. Sometimes people are just screaming into the void as an outlet for their frustrations. The Democratic establishment has never listened to us in the past, so why should we expect them to now?
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
The fact that they're apparently one in two million, and yet I've seen so many on social media, speaks to how many millions we must be harvesting all the time.

Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
I hope you remember how much fun you had being a right-wing troll when your guy makes everything go to shit. I hope for your sake you're overseas somewhere.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
DEI merely seeks equity of opportunity. There's nothing there about hiring incompetent people. The fact that you (and the president) assume that there aren't competent nonwhite people to fill those roles IS racist. It's not that difficult to understand.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
When you assume that they've hired "unqualified" people due to DEI, what you're really admitting is that you think nonwhites are inherently less qualified.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
That's funny. I never looked into it, I just assumed it had a slot for a little pressurized cartridge or something.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
People are misunderstanding, it's not HβO, it's HβO with Hβ gas either dissolved into it or bubbled through it. There is evidence that molecular hydrogen may have antioxidant effects, but I don't know if this delivery mechanism would have any meaningful effect.

I literally just played Dragon Quest 11 and it had a silent protagonist. I know it's less common these days, but you're exaggerating tremendously.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
NPC: Gives a beautiful, poetic plea for help, as the protagonist is the only one who can stop the evil. Protagonist: stares blankly through the entire speech. Nods once, says "Hup!", turns around and leaves.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
That's fine, I personally just prefer the main character to have some dialogue, even if I don't get to choose what is said.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
The distinction is whether "blank" means "you get to define your personality" or "you have no personality".
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Well the argument for the classic JRPG "blank slate" that doesn't talk is that you can "project yourself" onto the character. But I've never bought that, it just makes me feel like I'm playing a robot.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
Depends on what is meant by "blank slate". If you mean an Elder Scrolls style "you can be anyone" protagonist, then yeah. But if your protagonist is a JRPG style wide-eyed mute who speaks in grunts and can only say yes/no, then I do think that's pretty lazy.
Pit Wizard (@pit-wizard.bsky.social) reply parent
I have a long-standing hatred for Garth Ennis comics. I don't think I'm remotely alone in that opinion π
