I justified talking almost entirely about leftist antisemitism because I assumed this was obvious, and part of why Ive shifted how I speak about these things online is because I did notice getting right wingers going YEAH, THE LEFT IS AWFUL, THAT'S WHY I SUPPORT TRUMP WHO DEFINITELY DOESNT HATE JEWS

I appreciate the historical documents of your culture.

But neither of those things are about what George RR Martin and now the two new presenters did.

As is the way people are encouraged to have names that assimilate, which is why I said my deadname is unpronounceable but my actual name is absurdly common - I likely would have picked something different had racism *not* been a factor.
Pita Enigma (@pitaenigma.bsky.social) reply parent
FWIW I am exclusively referring to doing this accidentally, and even so a lot of the time it's the result of a society that places greater value on specific names. The way hosts on Fox News pretended Kamala Harris had an unpronounceable first name is an example of racism
Pita Enigma (@pitaenigma.bsky.social) reply parent
My deadname was one I thought was very simple and yet I can count the number of Americans who could pronounce it on one hand. I look at the name Siobhan with fear. I met Andrzej Sapkowski and had to be corrected on his first name. People mess up names they don't know.
Pita Enigma (@pitaenigma.bsky.social) reply parent
I dont think accidental mispronunciation of names is racist (except insofar as "we live in a racist society") and I was annoyed that GRRM was called that for mispronouncing names. That the exact same people who got mad at him for it did it themselves is both mild proof in his favor and schadenfreude
Pita Enigma (@pitaenigma.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm doubling down on "he was just pumped full of adrenaline and oxygen and they're covering it up" out of spite.
Pita Enigma (@pitaenigma.bsky.social)
The people who got mad at GRRM for fucking up names because he had no pronunciation guide said they fucked up names because they had no pronunciation guide.
Pita Enigma (@pitaenigma.bsky.social)
He's set to give a speech today, so if he forgets where he is and starts rambling about how big his dick is we'll know he's back to normal and it was likely just temporary illness

The fact that I cant use my "president's on the roof and won't come down" joke because he literally was on the roof for no reason is funnier than that joke could ever be.

That's only because Stancil isn't aggressively racist.

Explaining the political careers of Avigdor Liberman and Yair Lapid without discussing anticlericalism is impossible (or, at the very least, very flawed).

Part of the problem with disliking Mamdani for reasons I believe are perfectly legitimate is that the worst most shitty gutter racists hate him and always express it in the most stupid and bigoted way.

I normally find Wyatt Russell very bland, just sorta randomly likeable. There are great nepo babies out there (Jack Quaid) but Wyatt seemed to be purely a pretty face. He was actually interesting in Thunderbolts.
Pita Enigma (@pitaenigma.bsky.social)
I actually enjoyed Thunderbolts (not my habit with MCU movies) but one thing that really surprised me was that Wyatt Russell was actually decent in it. Wondering if this means I should catch up on the Falcon show.

The "large man enjoys nerd thing" genre is great. It's why I like Vin Diesel, Joe Manganiello, and Henry Cavill. If you show me a large celebrity who likes playing with figurines or talking about dragons I will like this person.

I think Topher Grace is just magical when playing pathetic little weasels and I'm glad we had a brief era where he was a movie star, but I also fully agree with you.

This is somewhat unfair, I have some family members who like gefilte fish, but it was always really funny to me that the guy I knew who *loved* it came from a gefilte-free society.
Pita Enigma (@pitaenigma.bsky.social) reply parent
My mom once made gefilte fish and nobody in the family would eat it, so she put it in the dog's bowl and the dog sniffed it and started to cry. I've known one man who liked gefilte fish, a bedouin guy who was in a relationship with a family friend for a while.

WRT horror, he's a terrible example to cite now, but Neil Gaiman has always been a master of shortform horror who got lost whenever he wrote something longer than 30 pages. The strength of Sandman was that it gave him space to write shortform horror and pretend it was a series.

Both of those Charlies are so good in the season. I don't like season 2 much, but Sauron is great in it. He's awful in season 1 but I blame the writing in it. Galadriel, who was breathtaking in season 2, was kind of meh in season 2.

Rings of Power had the fall of Eregion which was a great sequence (though honestly I'm just blinded by the excellent quality of Charlies the show has.

Lord of the Rings did things on a scale and quality level that no one has since but Game of Thrones had the battle of the Blackwater, battle of the Bastards (which I disliked but is popular), Hardhome (same). Witcher had a duel between Geralt and Vilgefortz that was cool.

I feel like Game of Thrones moved it out of movie theaters. We're getting these shows on TV with Witcher, Wheel of Time (RIP), Rings of Power, Legend of Vox Machina, probably like 5 others that don't immediately come to mind.

No idea when it started butmost politicians either have a childish nickname or a first name that sounds like one. My guess is it's a holdover from their military service, because you tend to get the dumbest names in the military and they follow you around for ages.
