You're right, but even in the US there are people with legitimate reasons to own guns that aren't 'gun nuts' & the NRA etc deliberately overstate the restrictions in other countries to stir up fear of even mild regulation. Small correction, guns aren't banned, licensing was tightened up & private handgun ownership is impossible, but the UK has plenty of rifle & shotgun owners. A big difference is ownership is restricted to those with a legitimate use for a gun, & 'I might feel I need to kill someone' doesn't cut it.
