And finally, this draft law – pushed through and adopted in one day. Why the rush? Because NABU got too close to some people who are close to the Office. All of this feels like nothing but a convenient excuse.
And then there’s the SBU wiretap video on detective Magamedrasulov: the subtitles say the technical cannabis came from Dagestan, but the recording itself mentions Uzbekistan.
Another example: NABU detective Anton Oliinyk was suspended over a traffic accident caused by negligence – something completely unrelated to his work. The accident happened in 2023 – what influence could he possibly have on the case in 2025?
Some detectives were physically assaulted and weren’t allowed to document their injuries for an entire day – medical institutions refused to examine them. What shocked me the most: one detective had his eyes forced open so they could unlock his phone via Face ID.

I’m not saying NABU is perfect. They clearly have things to work on, objectively. But all the searches were very forced, conducted without court warrants. Every single NABU search was classified as “urgent” and carried out on the same day –

This is a critical blow to Ukraine’s European integration process. And we have already seen this in 2013.
So no, these are not "anti-war protests." People are protesting because weakening NABU and SAPO now means rolling back years of painful anti-corruption progress – exactly when Ukraine needs international trust and money the most.
The OECD has already warned: undermining anti-corruption agencies will scare off defence investments and slow down post-war reconstruction funding. The European Commission also said NABU & SAPO are key to reforms and public trust. Even EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos expressed concern.
Why? Because if trials drag on forever, nobody gets sentenced, and officials can keep saying, "Look, there are no real results." This bill 12414 would only make things worse – undermining the independence of NABU and SAPO instead of fixing the delays.
Why there are talks that NABU and SAPO are not effective? Court delays. Many cases get stuck for years because of procedural loopholes, mostly exploited by defence lawyers. But NABU and SAPO are not allowed to influence defence procedures. And, frankly, politicians like the delays.
Some names? Ex-Fund of State Property head Sennychenko – accused of ₴600M in damages & ₴10B laundering. Former Minister Solskyi – ₴291M. Ex-Derzhspetszviazok head Shchyhol – ₴62M. Even some MPs from the ruling "Servant of the People" party are under suspicion.
Why does it matter? Because for the first time in Ukraine’s history, judges, MPs, deputy ministers, and top officials have actually been jailed for corruption. NABU and SAPO made it happen. Before 2014, nobody even believed it was possible to arrest a judge or a senior official.
Some people think protests in Ukraine against bill 12414 are "anti-war" (for ex Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene). Nope. Not even close. These protests are about protecting anti-corruption institutions – NABU (National Anti-Corruption Bureau) and SAPO (Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office).
