Kinda sounds like Amphibia
Kinda sounds like Amphibia
ah shit now that youve brought it up my brain is split between "wait its like amphibia" and "it almost looks ai generated"
Well, that's different from what others have compared it to.
I want to get excited about this but the premise feels a little too similar to another project that the parent company gave the shaft to.
Yeah, I know people have pointed it out, but then again it's not like Disney doesn't use... reminiscent premises here and there. I know Wish was criticized by some as being very familiar (I still personally liked the film). And at least Disney allowed the show to have a proper conclusion.
you said that already.
Yeah, if I wrote something minutes earlier and then wrote the same thing and the original completely disappeared, it's because sometimes I delete replies and rewrite them because I notice something is off.
Not to mention that the guy who canned it is no longer in the company. Other projects like it now have a real fighting chance.
I don't know, I still feel pretty bad. There's an entire show being made to spite Disney because of that situation, so it's not a great time to be making a similar movie.
I don't know if Dana really has any sore feelings about... well, maybe most of the people at Disney. But really, the most distinct difference I saw was that the teen is joined by her mother. Really, I am sure it will do more to make itself stand on its own. I just choose to be fair.
She has said that some of the big heads were on her side during the showβs production. So it wasnβt a total miserable experience.
Oh, okay, that clears things up. Yeah, I recall that despite the cutting down on the concluding season, she was a good sport and had a very positive outlook. She was even grateful to the fans for their support.
again, she's literally making a new show that's JUST about how evil Disney is.
Another animated property taking jabs at Disney isn't anything new and yeah she has every right to feel pissed over how Owl House was treated but I don't understand how that should affect this new film
I think the fact it's not new is my issue... well not that it's not new, but that every time it happens people seem to act like it's some bold new statement and not something that's happened for years. the same thing happened with Shrek.
That's my biggest concern, that people will just reduce Knights of Guinevere to either The Owl House 2.0 or Dana giving Disney the bird even though they still bothered to greenlight The Owl House to begin with and not let KOG stand on its own.
Fair enough. I also recall that despite the cutting short on the conclusion (not to sound like a scratched record), she didn't have animosity towards anyone.
Uh... what show is that?
Knights of Guinevere
The trailer for her new show premiered yesterday, and it's clearly a dig at how mass-produced, formulaic and nostalgia bomby modern Disney is.
I just sensed it was a deliberately tongue-in-cheek move.
American isekai
Huh?
Isekai: Fantasy subgenre characterized by a character being transported or reincarnated into a fantasy world or parallel universe
Portal Fantasy in western terms. It's existed since the beginning of "Proper Fantasy Literature"--Tolkien and Lewis' contemporaries usually wrote portal fantasies because it was Tolkien who initially came up with a complete world outside of the contemporary modern world and characters.
Interesting, thanks!
Oh, something that occurs in a lot of fiction the more I think about it.
Yup from Digimon to Chronicles of Narnia
Enchanted is reverse Isikai
π€
That's the best way to describe it. I guess the follow-up, which I plan to watch for myself soon, is kind of half reverse Isikai and half Isikai.
Its not as good as
Yeah, I know the reception isn't as good as the first. But still, I am almost always willing to give things a shot, just to see what I think or even to learn some lessons to avoid in my writings (since I aspire to be a filmmaker).
Ooh, evangelicals won't like it! Magic is witchcraft, so they say. (Which is female power, even if used by a warlock in touch with his inner goddess or "queer" in some other way.) Can't wait!
My inner ex-evangelical is anticipating the conservative backlash and already planning on seeing it out of spite π₯°
Ha! Ditto on all counts.
Smell like Elio 2 Flop
For the love of God, don't let it be a musical...
I'm gonna guess you never watched a Disney animated movie in your life.
Well, not every Disney film is a musical.
hence why I said "animated" movies. the only animated movie that I'm honestly not sure is a musical or not is The Black Cauldron (since I've never seen it)
There are animated films that aren't musicals either, like Meet the Robinsons, Treasure Planet, Big Hero 6, Wreck-It Ralph, Zootopia, and Strange World.
or actually get talented people to write the music at least.
I would rather straight up it not have songs in general. That bit has grown extremely stale by this point. Let them focus on the story, do something that'll excite the kids, maybe even scare them in a couple places, and let it all win the families over in the end. Take some risks...
I mean it's not like there's never been Disney movies without songs before either.
Yeah, that there is true.
Why do you say that?
I did not care for the songs in Wish or Moana 2
Personally I liked them (fine with Moana 2). I even have the Wish soundtrack on Vinyl from Christmas. But it's not like the makers of those didn't have talent.
was there any mention of Kingdom Hearts IV yet? Asking for myself and the rest of the KH community. :)
I have NO idea, yet.
I just want a fresh restored Dumbo and a bottle of champagne
As long it doesnβt Include subtext for Christianity
Me and snoop gonna take the kids and do something else. This is such a trojan horse for more of disneys gender nonsense
So... The Owl House???
Well, on some level kind of similar except the mother is also in on the journey.
I don't see that as a negative, I love Owl House and Witches by extension so much that I am glad this movie exists. I will wait for it to come out to my local library though because of how they screwed over Owl House and not wanting to pay them for it. Complicated feeling all round.
I assume at the end the teen finds out that he can get rid of his weirdness by drinking a potion so he can be just as heteronormative as the rest of his friends? Because anything else might be too woke.
Lorelay Bove designed this. Incredible artist! She previously worked on Encanto.
So itβs Elio but with magic.
"character has quirk and goes somewhere strange" was not invented by Elio.
Well, yes, I think he meant in terms of premise, but, yeah, even I know that.
Kind of, except the lead isn't alone in their journey.
At least one parent is alive, but when was the last time a major role for a maternal figure in these films wasn't Type A? (Hello, Turning Red, Encanto...)
Well, Encanto had both of the lead's parents alive, Moana in the second film still has her parents, Wish... well had the dad die instead of the mother, and... well, I didn't watch Strange World, so I wouldn't know.
Oh this is a beautiful homage to Mary Blair!
This better not fail
