Wonderful that he codified Roe, closed Guantanamo and delivered single payer just as he promised.

There's always one..🙄 everything former president Obama tried to do the Republicans shut it down, including affordable health care. Guantanamo exists because of Bush. At this point any former president is way better than the current joker in office. Probably the worst president in American history.

He had a supermajority for two months and did nothing with it. Question is why do we have a fascist in office? Because of a long line of neoliberals enriching the rich, warmongering and lying through their teeth, Obama included.

No, you ... You don't have to read left wing pamphlets to know what I mean; a few long form articles in the NYT or a few popular books on the theme of white fragility explains most of it.

I'm familiar with the concept of white fragility. I can't think of anything I've ever posted here or anywhere that would lead you or anyone to imagine that I cooperate with white supremacy in any way, or that I have a problem with authentic confrontation & intense conversation about racial issues.

The Last Liberal @thelastliberal.bsky.social

But you realize that the concept applies to the general demographic, white & liberal. The way you casually made that accusation against Blake is part of that same fragile deflection onto others. I won't say it's a clear path Obama to Trump. But many steps were taken, by Dems.

Now there's pro-Sanders rallies ... with still no apology for the dirty tricks played against him 2 times. That is a problem. And the Biden-Kamala stand down on the Gaza war, the Afghan pullout, US border immigration stance are a problem. It's unacceptable.

I did not make the accusation casually. I said it with direct intention. Dems aren't perfect. Nobody is. I have a serious problem with the folks who expect Dems to be perfect while somehow NEVER managing to turn their fire on Republicons. EVER. #BlameRepublicons for what Republicons do.

It's blatantly dishonest to accuse the left of not criticizing Republicans. That is yet another reason why millions have walked away from the Democrat party. You don't seem to care about that. Or the opinions of liberals and diverse groups it has destroyed. Dems BOAST how they deported more than DT.

Again, he's the president of the United States. Liberals forever throw their hands up and mutter that there was nothing they could do, whereas you know that if the roles were reversed and McConnel were a Democrat, he would have been imprisoned and a national strike called. Obama did nothing.

Nothing about your comment makes sense. If conservatives proposed legislation good for the country (something that has never happened) why would liberals block it? Dems HAVE blocked R legislation & nominees without being imprisoned. The very idea of Rcons calling a national strike is laughable.

Not sure what legislation has to do with anything, I am referring to Garland's nomination being blocked by McConnel. The Dems had the perfect opportunity to counter with Barrett but rolled over with barely a squeak.

Pres. Obama said in a Town Hall, (I saw the video last night) that he was going to do everything by the law through Congress. It's the right way, and it's the American way. Congress hasn't been doing their job for years, and ESPECIALLY now. Congress under Biden could've codified RvW and didn't.

Blake @corpuscolossus.bsky.social

Then why did he make no attempt to codify it with a supermajority when he stated it was his top priority? Why did he include insurance companies in Obamacare when there was no need to and single payer was the obvious, proven option?

aug 30, 2025, 6:01 pm • 12 1 • view

lolitics.bsky.social @lolitics.bsky.social

“Codification” isn’t a real thing, it’s cope invented by those who want to justify not taking notice in 2016 when 3 SCOTUS seats were up for grabs. Supreme Court rulings take precedence over Congress. If they deem it to be a matter for the states, nothing to be done but take control of the Court.

aug 30, 2025, 6:46 pm • 3 0 • view
avatar
Blake @corpuscolossus.bsky.social

Codification is not a made up concept. The legislative process of passing a federal law to make the protections permanent would be binding in all states, and Obama stated it was his highest priority, until he had a supermajority and said it was no longer one. He did hand the GOP an SC seat however.

aug 30, 2025, 6:54 pm • 0 0 • view
avatar
lolitics.bsky.social @lolitics.bsky.social

In this context it is made up. Democrats “codified” gay marriage in 2022, but it can still be overturned by the Supreme Court. Just like they overturned the Defense of Marriage act in 2015 when they legalized gay marriage. SCOTUS can strike down laws passed by Congress, that’s its job.

aug 30, 2025, 7:00 pm • 1 0 • view
avatar
Blake @corpuscolossus.bsky.social

I'm aware that they can, but that supposes that it will. Laws have a role, and under a just dispensation, the SC will not overturn just laws. When you have a president going 'oh well nothing can be done' when it's blatantly his SC justice to nominate, you get a Federalist and unjust SC.

Obama governed in a constitutional system. He didn’t have powers to force the Senate to do anything. He could persuade individuals if they were willing, but from Lieberman to McConnell they were not. And he only had a cooperative House for two years.

Again, 'the president couldn't do anything except hand over the country to neo-confederates' is complete horseshit. If it had been a Dem senate and a GOP president, the blood would have been flowing in the streets. Saying well it was our turn but they just wouldn't is why we have fascism.
