Not to mention saving yourself. Undertaking genocide results in a lifetime of mental trauma, high risk of suicide and eternal disgrace.
Leftist, business owner, anti-capital, anti-fascist, anti-war. We could and should be doing better.

The Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact was a tactical move from both countries to buy time, preventing a two-front war for the Nazis and giving the Soviets time to rebuild build militarily following the Great Purge. The Soviet Union and contemporary Russia have few ideological similarities.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
You're a genocide apologist. Your lineage will be deeply ashamed when they look back at your support for Nazism.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
The Soviet Union was antifascist and defeated the Nazis in WW2.

To the end that Keynesian economics (WW2-Reagan) spawned the greatest expansion of human growth in middle class wealth and services in history, and since Reagan, oligarchy has taken hold, the US has become a nation of rentiers and debtors, and billionaires are conspiring, literally, to end life awki

If you want to understand authoritarian communism, read Animal Farm. Fascism has 14 specific features that are not touched on in that book, because it is not touched on by Orwell. If you want fiction, read Handmaiden's Tale, Dairy of a Man in Despair or Darkness at Noon.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
The problem is a lack of principle in the candidates people are expected to accept. It's constant degradation to the point where we're expected to vote for candidates who arm a fucking genocide. There is no bottom. It's time to start decorating the town gates with their heads.

this should become a thing, putting up signs like this for every arrest & disappearance in public spaces. it would likely break into lower info, less politically engaged demos and local social media groups
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Both full-throated proponents, armourers and propagandists for genocide. That's all they should be remembered for.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Are you saying that referring to the enemy as animals, saying you're cutting off food and water, and that you intend to wipe the Gaza Strip from the face of the earth (all of which has come to pass) is not overt genocidal speech? As a genocide researcher, I can assure you you're wrong.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Don't know why we spent that much on Zubamendi. Looked out of his depth.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
I published a presentation in early Nov 23 detailing genocidal speech and action, which was common from ministerial level to media and soldiers on the ground. Israel had ample forewarning of Oct 7, ignored it & used friendly fire to increase casualty numbers as a pretext for long planned genocide.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Amichai Eliyahu announced in early Nov that nuking Gaza was an option. Nissim Vaturi wrote that Israel's goal was "erasing the Gaza Strip from the face of the earth." Netanyahu referred to Palestinians as Amalek later that month, a nation ancient Israelis wiped out.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Yoav Gallant, Oct 9 announced a complete siege: "There will be no electricity, no food, no water, no fuel. Everything is closed. We are fighting human animals and we will act accordingly." Textbook genocidal speech. Bezalel Smotrich called all 2m Gazan residents Nazis 2 days later.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
The Israeli cabinet spoke about flattening Gaza from day 1 and you're a genocide apologist.

Miss the good old days where we could batter these fuckers into the ER.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
How about double points*?
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
It was genocide from day one, in speech and in action.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
What are you on about?
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
That is completely false. I watched virtually every press briefing, they never opposed it in any way, and to claim that they did is a lie.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Pritzker is providing a masterclass in opposing fascism. Newsom is providing a platform to the architects of fascism, and polls terribly against Trump and dozens of other Dems. Your approach to politics is what got us here.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Are you saying that the Biden administration didn't give the genocide its full throated support? Or that they didn't provide the arms, funding and propaganda for the genocide? Or that Reagan didn't end a massacre with a single call?
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
He made no attempt. The constant and unwavering message from his press secretaries was that Israel had a right to defend itself, while pouring money and arms into the massacres. Reagan ended one with a single call, Biden could have too but chose not to.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
He's a political opportunist using gimmicks to win over rubes. You can't oppose fascism when you're happily platforming Kirk and Bannon on your podcast, and then going on another MAGA podcast to state that you agree completely with their stance on trans rights.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Newsom's policies include persecuting the homeless, 'predictive policing', vilifying transpeople, platforming the architects of the current fascist state and supporting the genocide in Gaza.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Couldn't have done it without the full support, funding, arms and propaganda provided by the Biden administration. Biden could have ended it with a phone call at any point.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
He had a supermajority for two months and did nothing with it. Question is why do we have a fascist in office? Because of a long line of neoliberals enriching the rich, warmongering and lying through their teeth, Obama included.

Animal Farm is an allegory that is most specifically a critique of communism. The books I'd recommend is 'On Tyranny' by Tom Snyder, 'Ur Fascism' by Umberto Eco, 'Anatomy of Fascism' by Paxton or 'Why Nations Fail' by Acemoglu/Robinson.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Great counter argument. Note that Obama sold the country out and you're still breathless with adoration.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Not sure what legislation has to do with anything, I am referring to Garland's nomination being blocked by McConnel. The Dems had the perfect opportunity to counter with Barrett but rolled over with barely a squeak.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
What would have happened if a Dem speaker had blocked a Republican president from an SC seat? A recess appointment, firstly, which Obama never attempted. Enraging the Republican base to assert public pressure, which Obama never attempted. Note when Barrett was nominated with less time, Dems rolled.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
It is Joe Biden's genocide, and every issue you mention there is squarely in Newsom's list of policies. It's you who needs to wake the fuck up, you credulous rube.

Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Again, he's the president of the United States. Liberals forever throw their hands up and mutter that there was nothing they could do, whereas you know that if the roles were reversed and McConnel were a Democrat, he would have been imprisoned and a national strike called. Obama did nothing.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
If a politician collaborates with fascists, he is indistinguishable from a fascist. Newsom has proven he's on Israel's side as they massacre Palestinians and is happy to persecute transpeople and the homeless. Whether he's into palingenetic ultranationalism remains to be seen.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Great post dude.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Sorry? Was it Obama's SC judge or was it the GOPs? Obama did nothing except roll over to McConnell because Obama's billionaire donors were a-ok with the current SC, and you're a rube if you believe there was nothing he could do.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Again, 'the president couldn't do anything except hand over the country to neo-confederates' is complete horseshit. If it had been a Dem senate and a GOP president, the blood would have been flowing in the streets. Saying well it was our turn but they just wouldn't is why we have fascism.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Liberal observing a Dem President: 'of course he can't do anything, his hands are tied!' Liberal observing a GOP president laying waste to institutions, unilaterally waging war and throwing minorities into camps: 'It's his right, as the world's most powerful under-deity'

And trans people, and Palestinians.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Funnily enough I have published papers predicting fascism in the US since 911. The problem with working class Americans is that they accept a bowl of thin gruel as though its a banquet. Which is why fascism has taken hold.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Bailing out banks is not representing you well. Not holding a single banker accountable is not representing you well. Not codifying Roe is not representing you well. Keeping Guantanamo open ditto. Expanding drone warfare ditto. Giving the GOP the Supreme Court ditto. You have v low standards.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
If Obama had delivered on his 2008 election promises, we wouldn't have fascism.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
If he had enacted single payer instead it would still be $9 and I'd be willing to bet fascism would not have taken hold in the US. It is a milquetoast cop out from a milquetoast leader.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
I recall it clearly. He had the option to bail out homeowners and hold banks accountable, and instead did the opposite. He had the option to exclude insurers from Obamacare, and instead included them of his own volition. He had the option to make Roe law and chose not to. All inexcusable.

Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm aware that they can, but that supposes that it will. Laws have a role, and under a just dispensation, the SC will not overturn just laws. When you have a president going 'oh well nothing can be done' when it's blatantly his SC justice to nominate, you get a Federalist and unjust SC.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
So much of capitalist innovation is degrading, inaccurate, polluting bullshit that no one asked for, makes us collectively poorer and is forced on us by the oligarchy and their spin machines.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Codification is not a made up concept. The legislative process of passing a federal law to make the protections permanent would be binding in all states, and Obama stated it was his highest priority, until he had a supermajority and said it was no longer one. He did hand the GOP an SC seat however.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
I've studied fascism for many years. The most effective way to fight it is, for example, how Oswald Mosley was defeated in the UK. When a show of force is made by the fascist right, it needs to be countered with a stronger show of counter protest. The US lacks the appetite and intent to fight it.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
I believe the reason Germany is criminalizing protest of Israel/Gaza is because the tendency towards fascism comes via neoliberalism.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
We agree, however the 'radical center' now look to leaders like Gavin Newsom to fight fascism, who is another Clinton/Biden acolyte with even further right wing views. The only way fascism can be overcome is through direct action from the socialist left (imo).
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
He can't push for a bill that he claimed was his top legislative priority when he has an unassailable majority in both houses? Incredible take.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Presidents are just smol beans with no political sway or ability to influence a house and senate with a supermajority. Obama rolled over on Garland and is wholly responsible for the current Supreme Court.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
My take is that there is no leader in US history more responsible for the rise of Trump than Obama. He campaigned on leftist promises with no intention of implementing, eroded all faith in the left as a result, and then paved the way for Hillary, Biden etc, neolibs who guarantee fascism.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Then why did he make no attempt to codify it with a supermajority when he stated it was his top priority? Why did he include insurance companies in Obamacare when there was no need to and single payer was the obvious, proven option?
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
He said codifying Roe would be his first priority as president, and when he had a supermajority, said it was no longer a legislative priority and it was never tabled. He could have closed Guantanamo with executive order. Charlatan right winger.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Following the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Obama deigned it necessary to intervene to get players back on the court for the most tepid concessions from owners and the league. He is committed to capital and donors, and sold out the electorate from day one on hope and change.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
The only time Obama ever speaks up is to interfere in democratic primaries to prevent leftists from taking office and to break NBA strikes. Amoral dross.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Wonderful that he codified Roe, closed Guantanamo and delivered single payer just as he promised.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
How is someone with those flags supporting someone who says he's fully on board with Charlie Kirk on trans issues?
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Wrong. It's the constant acquiescing to the lesser of two evils to the extent that the lesser included an open arming of genocide that got us here. It's the resigned acceptance of abhorrent policy because 'he/she's the best we can muster' that got us here. It's your lack of political imagination.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
How does redistricting in a solidly blue state solve any of the systemic issues that led to Trump? How does supporting a fascist collaborator like Newsom solve the fundamental issue of fighting fascism?
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Perhaps she should have sucked less.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
My latest on.... the platform all the Nazis use.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
By getting buddy buddy with Charlie Kirk and Steve Bannon? You don't know what fighting back looks like in this scenario, and soon you're going to wake up under full blown fascism.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Then they should definitely run someone worthwhile. I certainly will never cast a vote for the man, nor will many groups, like transpeople for example.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
What does it solve in the bigger scheme of things, given that Newsom has shown he's absolutely on side with fascists like Kirk and Bannon? He's also said he's launching some lol memecoin. If you believe Newsom is a solution to anything, you're acquiescing to fascism completely.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
He's breaking up their homes, stealing their possessions and worsening their lot. The 'more resources' schtick is PR for rubes who'll say 'how is that MAGA'?

Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Show me an example of an appeaser/collaborator like Newsom doing any sort of good against a proto-fascist regime. It has never happened in history. Then look at rising fascists like Mosley and see how they were defeated. There's your solution.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
He had Bannon and Kirk on his podcast and was as congenial as it gets. This is precisely what Bannon explicitly wants as part of his media strategy. I know what fascism is. Newsom is not fascist, but is a collaborator. I know what breaks fascism, collaborators don't.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
I don't think Newsom is serious about redistricting, he isn't putting his political weight behind it, but is putting it behind policing and breaking encampments. Pritzker is an infinitely better choice, as are leaders like Lander, who consistently puts his body in the way. Follow principle.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
I've studied genocide and fascism for more than 20 years. It cannot be defeated by following leaders who align themselves with the architects of that fascism (Bannon/Kirk). It can be defeated by mass direct action, which is being proposed (somewhat mutedly) by Pritzker.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
What?
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
You cannot fight fascism with a person who consistently aligns himself with the architects of the fascist state. There are solutions here, Newsom is a long way from one of them.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
What is he trying exactly? He's literally sending cops into dozens of Cali towns to profile people. He just appeared on a right wing podcast and said he was in lockstep with their views on transpeople. He polls terribly against Trump and far worse than other candidates. Edgy tweets isn't trying.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
I have several friends and associates whose livelihoods have been completely destroyed by AI in fields like content writing and storyboarding. It is sending the cost of electricity skyrocketing, and the data centers pay a fraction of what consumers do, while massively increasing emissions.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
Newsom platforms fascists like Bannon and Kirk on his podcast. His and Trump's politics are not particularly different.
Blake (@corpuscolossus.bsky.social) reply parent
People are homeless because of massive increases in cost of living, largely due to property speculation. Real leadership would be making it illegal for corporations to own residential homes, not brutalizing innocent people because they can't afford a roof over their head.

It's destroying the environment, putting people out of work, causing severe mental illness, encourages teens to commit suicide and is the aesthetic of fascism. Also the realm of talentless hacks.

I don't disagree, I just don't believe where we're headed there's much chance of that happening. Not a single member of the Bush admin faced a shred of justice for killing a million in Iraq, nor has any bureaucrat for decades of slaughter. If justice does come, it's likely to less clean cut.
