Capitalism isn’t the issue. It’s only been around for a few seconds of human existence, whereas the exploitation of humans has been around for all time. Clearly, it's not about capitalism.

Not really. We have far better living standards in free market-based Europe today than we’ve had under any other system in the world. And, to be clear, I’m not necessarily defending capitalism. I’m just contesting this obsessive hatred of it.

That’s true for Europe. But in the U.S. capitalism is behind monetizing our bodies and our health—sickness is just an opportunity to make more money. Also, I’m pretty pissed that the rich people have bought our government for the purpose of getting richer. It’s so normalized nobody seems to care.

Everyone has better living standards than in the past. That's just progress. Free healthcare in Europe is not a capitalist feature. Nor are benefits, or any of the other socialist principles that maintain stability and improve progress.

Capitalism provides a LEGAL basis for exploitation. Most other forms of exploitation have been made illegal, most a long time ago. If guns were a loss making business, who would be advocating for their retention?

You’re missing the wood for the trees. Capitalism is just a costume worn by power. In the West, it's the custome of choice. Elsewhere, power wears other costumes. We’re watching the early stages of a costume change in the US: the Trump regime ditching capitalism for a statist mafia-run economy.

It's not an coincidence that shit started going really wrong in 2008, when the banks crashed. The saving of the banks was the first step to fascism. It was unavoidable, ad capitalism had nicely created the 'too big to fail' concept through its inevitable promoted monopoly power...

Going on about capitalism is a gift to the rich. (1) They don’t actually like capitalism. They don’t want to compete - they just want to dominate. Fair enough. I've been using the terms interchangeably, but you've opened my eyes - thank you. I was thinking tariffs (and subsidies and government contracts for welfare queens like Musk) were anti-capitalism, but they're not. They're anti-free market.

The Nobles made their own policies adjacent to the monarchy. They were the overlords of their own area and areas resources.

Most of Scandinavia are democratic socialist states (my preferred system) although they are slipping to the right slowly. The "truer" socialist states in existence now are generally in Africa/The middle east To me democratic socialism is the balance.
