Gratified to see there's been a fairly heavy backlash. He's the antithesis of that pope and certainly of any conception of Christ I was ever taught about during my stint as a Catholic. I'm an atheist, even an anti-theist, but that was over the line. I'm not a monster.

Protestant confirmation is similar to Catholic communion, you confirm that you want to be a Christian, but we do it at the age of 14 or 15, while the Catholics usually have their communion at the age of 9 or 10 yet. But again, I do not need a church or a pastor, I can pray here at home.

Catholics' First communion is ~ 6. Confirmation is like the Protestant version and happens at 10-12. I was in elementary school at the time. I don't need any of it. I'm perfectly ok with saying "I don't know" about all of it. I feel no compulsion to make shit up or buy into others' made up shit.

In Germany Catholic communion is at the age of 9 or 10 years and Protestant confirmation at the age of 14 or 15, it´s so here. Not sooner. My cousin Birgit is Catholic and had her confirmation when she was 9, and so had all my Catholic childhood friends.

Also, you don't have to be confirmed to receive communion. I think the age corresponds to their doctrine pertaining to age of responsibility for knowing right from wrong. So, it's pretty early, about 6 in the US.

If I had waited until 15 for confirmation, I prob would have skipped it. So probably would most kids that age, out of sheer rebellion, if not any religious apathy. You can be confirmed or have a first communion at any age. It's just customary in the US to get them early, before too much education.
