Most US citizens don't know that the only #NATO member that ever invoked article 5 was the US (after 9-11). A lot of soldiers from European countries died in Afghanistan and Iraq, fulfilling their NATO-duty. Measured in % of population, their number of casualties was often higher than that of US.

All major parties in Germany have made a pact not to form a coalition with the AFD so we can be pretty sure the center will hold. And some perspective is needed. The media make a big deal about AFD 'being the second largest'. But they're at 20% in polls. That means 80% of Germans DON'T want the AFD

He tried the same trick that the center right party VVD in the Netherlands did: trying to peel off voters from the AFD by positioning himself as tough on immigration. But that doesn't work because AFD voters are quite cultish and it only irritates other parties who oppose the populist approach.

Speaking as an outsider, reading what you can do, here are my thoughts. Tomorrow, there's plans for protests in all of your state capitals. Participating in that is a start. The key, though, is to not leave. You have to entrench and have yourselves forcibly removed. Then you do it again. /1

Jason 🇨🇦 @theicepirates.bsky.social

But the next one has to be bigger. Think march on Washington. Except you gridlock the whole damned capital. Halt all traffic, disrupt the day to day. Also, think general strike. Money makes the world go 'round, so when no one is working, big businesses hemorrhage money. /2

I think it's partly their seats but even more so their illegal insider stock tips. If we cleaned that up it would really be possible to get elected leaders back to doing their jobs.

I kind of think it’s more sinister, like threats to family members. Whether true or not, I’m positive Elon and his connection to Russia has instilled some serious fear in the Republican politicians. That has to be the only reason he’s gotten away with this much. It’s sick.

You're likely correct that that's a part of it.

Because I think Elon and Putin really are keyed in to absolutely everything. I HATE that this timeline has made me a conspiracy theorist. HATE.

The GOP has never embraced pluralistic (true) democracy. If it was up to them, there would have been no civil/social progress since the 50's & women would not have the right to vote. They stopped caring about democracy in the 70's at the latest. Reagan's Radicalism was the end of them pretending.

And too many have no idea of what is going on because (1) they don't read (2) they are - not yet - feeling the effects personally and (3) they do not see how they will be affected. (This excludes those who follow Mr. Conway on this site)
