Historically speaking, when fascists come to power, approximately 90% of the population tends to go a long with it.

Historically speaking powerful leaders don't spend half their time playing golf. This is going to suck. But just like last time it'll be incompetence and lack of leadership. He never gets anything done.

Historically speaking, and I'm referencing Ruth Ben-Ghiat, the best times to take down authoritarian regimes--and they DO get taken down--is at the end and also at the beginning. We are at the beginning. We must give it our all.

Diversity is our strength against fascism. Historical examples of fascism are in countries that have a mostly singular national identity, shared language & history (Germans, Russians, Italians, etc.) Not one had our incredible diversity!!

And the Democratic voters failed to show up during midterms to help support Obama and Biden and they failed to vote against Trump the first time and the third time. If Dems voters can't consistently back their side why do you think anyone else will revolt against GOP?

For the amount of abortion initiatives that got passed, yet Harris lost, it tells you there were a lot of split ticket voters which makes no sense unless they just hate liberals that much, or a lot of males showed up specifically to vote for trump.

Not compared to the power he had after 2016. When Trump was 1st inaugurated in Jan. 2017, the GOP at that point had the most power that they'd got in DC since the 1920s. Also, whites & blacks voted more for Kamala than Biden. It was Hispanics had the huge shift to the Right. GOP is a powder keg.

Democratic voters showed up just fine in 2018, 2020 and 2022. I don't really get why they didn't this time. But I'm sure they will again. Assuming Republicans don't cancel elections, 2026 and 2028 won't be pretty for them.

Yes, but that was supposed to happen. It was the midterms. And yet it wasn’t nearly as brutal as 2018, 2014, 2010 or 2006 had been for the in-party. (One reason, I think, for fact that Biden tried to cling on, which actually was desastrous for the Dems.)

Kat Loveland - Creative @katlovelandvo.bsky.social

Conservative voters show up just the same amount of people in midterms as they do on the presidential elections. It's Democrats that don't show up. If Democrats were consistent with their voting habits, our presidents wouldn't lose power two years into their term and we'd get more accomplished.

nov 16, 2024, 10:15 pm • 1 0 • view
avatar
Kat Loveland - Creative @katlovelandvo.bsky.social

Dems tune out for midterms in general. Which means democratic presidents usually only have two years to get any legislative agenda passed, and the Republicans can spend two years getting more entrenched. This is a problem

Thomas Ley @thomasley.bsky.social

True. But this pattern is slowly changing. Dem voters start to recognize how important down-ballot and midterms and even off-year elections are. And: 2018 was a desaster for Trump. I’m banking on 2026 being the same. It’s what keeps me going.

How can Republicans cancel elections? I understand the dread, but they are run by the states so I don’t understand the logistics. Leftists need to learn to show up every time, that is the only way we will shift the Overton window in the direction we want.
