The one thing we have going for us is the military (NG especially) are way more diverse than say during the days of Kent State. That isn’t to say there aren’t true believers amongst the Guard but it isn’t all bubba and his buddies dodging the Vietnam draft by hiding in the Guard either.

I hope that it's going to work out okay. I'd be lying if I said that I had any confidence that it will.

What gives me hope is a lot of the people in the military aren’t rabid fascists. At least not yet. Very very few of these people signed up to shoot fellow Americans. Most of the battalion level officers are going to be GWOT vets and are pragmatic rational people.

Given another ten years of the current DOD trajectory and I’d be much more worried about what the military would do.
