I've been using Linux for a couple of months now and it's been pretty good. Hasn't interfered with any of my usual computer-related needs, I can still run games thanks to Proton, etc. But I have been using a regular ass Fedora KDE OS setup. I'm wondering if I should go full sicko Arch Linux DIY.

What I did was to install Proxmox and then try a variety of distros until I found what works best for me for each application Laptop == Pop!_OS Desktop == Void VM on Proxmox Containers == LXC on Proxmox bsky.app/profile/moch...

You're already setup and working. Linux is Linux, Fedora has pretty new packaging, and you probably don't have to be on the bleeding edge. Learn Fedora. It's quite customizable.

Try Arch out either on a virtual machine or a non-essential secondary first. You *will* run into some hiccups the first time around, and it’s handy to have a fallback in case you really need to get something done.

Also, fwiw, if you go the virtual machine route and want to transfer your setup to a “real” drive, doing so is possible and there’s a page on the Arch Wiki for it wiki.archlinux.org/title/Moving...

I would recommend Endeavor Os first. Its Arch and has lot of the Arch tinkering involved but takes care of some of the basics for you through a installer. That way you can get to know Arch before going full arch

Also CachyOS in this camp. Out of the box plus a couple clicks gets you there. I've been loving the cachy proton version. Works with pretty much everything without issues.

It's not too bad if you are capable of following instructions, but it will occasionally break itself. Part of the nature of being a cutting edge community distro. As long as you are ready for it, it's worth having the newest stuff.

My brother messes around with it as his home desktop environment of choice and he actually said as much to me. It's like, he thinks I can handle it no problem because my troubleshooting skills are good enough, but he also knows I just want my home stuff to work without issue.

Alas, there's a handful of Windows-centric things which prevent me from making a full switch. Still, something to think about
