I rode in a Waymo the other day. It was slow but worked fine. Not really sure why I’d invest in Tesla when there are people that can already do the thing pretty good

Even Waymo is far from operating outside a few heavily mapped cities. When they launch their services in CDMX, Cairo or São Paulo then they'll be getting close to becoming widespread.
In CDMX pricing is too low, IMO. An uber from airport, 30 -40 min is like $10 if I remember right. So CDMX is not likely for some time. I have never been to Cairo or Sao Paulo.
Yes, but even in San Francisco with ICE deporting taxi drivers Waymo is not cheaper than human drivers. My point is that even Waymo is not feasible outside very controlled and limited areas, imagine in large metropolitan areas with unpredictable traffic.
On regards of that pricing for CDMX, it REALLY depends on where and when are you taking that Uber. I have payed dumb ass prices for Ubers there on very short distances thanks to their "dynamic pricing" at night.
Yes, but note that even with ICE deporting drivers without subsidies a human driver is cheaper than Waymo in San Francisco. Polanco and Paseo de la Reforma have a predictable grid, but lots of pedestrians and heavy traffic.
Ah, that is true. Also with how terrible the infrastructure and streets in general are in Mexico City, Waymo would never work here. There’s nothing more chaotic in this world than traffic on this city at peak hours or when there’s a football match.
Yes, but in some sense is sprawl that allows Waymo to work. The SF that urbanists would love would be much more complicated for Waymo to operate. And CDMX in some sense is an easy example, even Rome or Paris would offer challenges.
Knowing my country and my lovely compatriots, IF Waymo would ever attempt to implement their service here, I would bet good money that the first car would be stolen just hours after first deployment. xD
Nah, that a risk for humans drivers too. I think that traffic is more the issue here, but maybe a limited service in Polanco the the subway stations wouldn't be so infeasible.
