A Sara Nelson campaign email asserts that she is "pushing to get millions in unused housing funds off the shelf and into actual homes", which is news to me as a city hall reporter. Nelson has actually proposed borrowing against Office of Housing dollars to fill other budget holes.

Seattle needs proven fighters leading the City Council, especially with the Trump administration targeting cities like ours. We can't afford leaders learning on the job when our values and our people are under attack. I've spent four years taking on Seattle's toughest fights and winning. When powerful interests tried to block workforce housing, I forced it through anyway. When people were dying from fentanyl and the system kept failing them, I put real effective treatment at the center of our response. Now I'm pushing to get millions in unused housing funds off the shelf and into actual homes. In 2021, I gained 15 points between the Primary and the General. If we can do the same in 2025, we win this election.

Thank you for calling this out! Dedicated local journalism is the only remedy against corrupt politicians like Nelson. 👍

I would have thought she’d tout her pet spot re-zoning in the stadium district as her primary housing accomplishment.

A little harder to do that when it's tied up in two separate appeals.

But the rhetorical leaps seem easier to tie back to truthiness. “I am willing to do battle against entrenched interests to…” etc. The “get funds off the shelf” thing just has no legs?

"In 2021 I gained 15 points between the primary and the general." Yeah, because 20% of primary voters didn't vote for the top two. Good luck finding that gain from the 6%.

This must be tied to the mayor's decision to finally release funds already designated for housing and make it seem like should be credited for doing anything other than withholding them until that moment
