I really don’t have enough vices. Considering taking up smoking a pipe.
I really don’t have enough vices. Considering taking up smoking a pipe.
I tried pipe smoking for a while this winter, but it was a whole little ritual, so I often forgot. Which is a shame, because nicotine is quite helpful with the ADHD. Now I use tobacco free pouches and haven’t used a pipe in months, because smoke is still smoke, even if you don’t inhale.
True.
I was thinking about knitting.
One gives you lung disease one give you sicks and a sweater. Choose wisely, my friends 😊
Dual use as chopsticks.
I don’t think yours qualifies as a vice though
I’m uncoordinated as hell. There will be much blood letting which may lead to blood poisoning
Still not a vice. 😆😉
If it annoys people :)
Depends on how indulgent you want your knitting supplies and fiber to be, some profligacy. Could also take an inordinate amount of pride in your work just to push it into the seven sins level of vice. The sloth of lounging around under something you knitted/crocheted.
Ok but if it has any use for good, by default it can’t be a vice.
Potato potahto.
Plus, going to one of my reunions and breaking out the needles might leave some aghast
That is true 🤣🤣🤣
From a steely eyed airborne ranger to a knitter. Ok, I was never steely eyed.
Hmmm. Let me see what I can come up with.
If I smoked a pipe 6 times a year it would qualify and likely not cause TOO much health concern, wouldn’t contribute significantly to lines around the mouth, would be evil enough to horrify my mother and yeah those are my criteria
There are plenty of vices you can take up that aren’t physically harmful.. Chocolate, Caviar, Porn… 😏
Bourbon, whiskey, cigars…
One can smoke things other than tobacco in a pipe..
Well yes. But it’s really the aroma of pipe tobacco that I want.
That sounds properly upsetting and often enough you get an appreciation of the nice buzz. Plus, there are some very nice pipes out there. I can imagine spending some for a work of art.
Right?
Ha! Perfect. 😁
An icon of female pipe smoking! The only one I can think of, actually. 🤔
Hard to express how much I loved that show when I was knee-high to a grasshopper. 😍
I love how Jed & family always got one over on Mr. Drysdale and Miss Hathaway 🤣
Her rope belt, lol 😂
The costuming was first rate in that show.
I did read last night about Millicent Fenwick-apparently quite famously smoked a pipe in Congress. And Greta Garbo too.
Ohhhh Millicent Fenwick of course! Did not know about Garbo.
I would like to be the tattooed granny who enjoys the occasional pipe and tells dirty jokes to the grandkids that makes their parents gasp
Goals 🤣🤣🤣
I'm at the whiskey, cigar and dgaf stage.
I think @dermotncosgrove.bsky.social covers a broad swathe of vices.
He IS my vice lmao Maybe I just need to douse him in essence of tobacco
lol do you have the English version ?
www.reddit.com/r/fragrance/...
What kind of pipe?
I don’t think she’s going hunting.
Handy for emphasizing your rhetorical statements and poking people in the eye if they fail to agree.
The smell of a good blend is one of the best aromas you can waft about yourself.
You all are supposed to be talking me out of this 🤣
Why would we do that? Forget selling indulgences, we're encouraging them!
There are far better vices than that I am sure... to be fair, apart from drinking I have tried no others really... just thinking how many Gen X things are now so wrong and... perhaps watching Pretty in Pink? Mine is old James Bond films... utterly unacceptable!
Or, and @dermotncosgrove.bsky.social will appreciate this, watching old Rugby clips where they just used to beat the shit out of each other because substitutes were not allowed and it was a winning strategy.
Hahah he loves those
Yeah Secretly we all do even though it is so obviously bad, and that is what we will say if asked. But to give you a great Rugby hero and WW2 of mine who I once got to be in the same room with once was Edward "weary" Dunlop who served in the Australian Army as a surgeon but prior to the war he...
... was the first Victorian Wallaby (our state tradiorionally plays Aussie Rules not Rugby) He ended up a POW of the Japanese after the fall of Singapore but as a doctor, despite the inhuman conditions set by the Japanese, kept hundreds of British and Aussie POWs alive...
... He thus became a national war hero, not because he killed, but because he kept people alive. At his funeral 5000 in Melbourne lined his route of buriel and he chose not to be buried in his military uniform but his Wallabies top... Absolute legend.
The reason I mention him here is that during one such match where they went full on to injure opposition, his nose wad broken. At half time he stuck 2 pencils up his nostril and straightened it out and continued playing. Tough bastard!
Absolute legend! I love hearing about these people!
He was special. I regret not approaching him and talking to him when we were at the same event. I was a 20 year old kid in a room full of war veterans, at least 3 ambassadors, 2 VC holders and Dunlop. Just too intimidated at that age.
I’ve told her a couple of Buck Shelford stories 😂😂😂
They were probably not super into fangirling 🤣
I mean if you’re serious (and not talking about the magic lettuce), I can absolutely help with that!
I’ve always loved the smell of pipe tobacco. I just don’t know what kind it is to hunt it down. You know when you catch that sweet whiff on the wind? I’ve smelled it since I was a kid
Captain Black is probably the most popular pipe tobacco of the last 50 years. It’s quite sweet on the nose. Maybe try it?
Can I just burn captain Black in some sort of diffuser? Lol Also I’m not 50 yet goddammit
I was always under the impression that pipe smokers inhaled the smoke but apparently that isn’t true? What do you smoke and what pipes do you have?
It’s more like drinking from a straw. And when you exhale through your nose with a mouth full of tobacco, ideally, no smoke comes out. It shouldn’t really get into the lungs. That’s why pipe smokers often get throat and mouth cancers first.
Which is why in moderation it’s probably not *as bad* as cigarette smoking 🤷🏻♀️
I drink diet cola, eat THC edibles, use a THC vape pen, and recently discovered the joys of using a bong. And those are the vices I'm willing to disclose. 😁
I highly recommend it, also choose ur plant wisely 🤓
Are pipes penis extensions? Like the longer and bigger the pipe, the tinier your wiener?
This made me snort my cocktail, so thank you. But seriously, pipe smoking is a lot of work, but also curiously meditative; take that as you will
This is what I’m looking for. Meditative process. Forced relaxation. Aromas. Something to do while just sitting.
There is boutique tobacco out there that is amazing. I don't partake now, but I can't imagine there isn't a thriving community--just beware the tobacco equivalent of the craft beer bro Also, iirc, fruit flavored tobacco is an abomination
Hahaha I can see that I do love hookah-and there are flavored tobaccos for that and I like some. Rose. Apple. But I think those are fairly traditional flavors so maybe not the same thing?
I just remember a cherry flavor that was truly awful
Oh goodness did you guys smoke cloves back in the day? I don’t know what I was thinking! Give me a real cigarette any day!
Omg, yes! But only on occasion because they were so expensive & because after a while you couldn't taste anything. Idk what I was thinking either
I’ve never smoked anything but hookah and the rare cigar but o liked how the Swisher Sweets smelled lol
Hmmm. Is width also inversely correlated too?😝
Well I don’t know. As I contemplate pipes I admire, they’re the super long skinny ones but also the short fat chubby ones that the stereotypical sea shanty singing fishermen would smoke and the longer I go on the more suggestive it all sounds 🤣🤣🤣
That explains why my wife keeps buying me tiny pipes
Those ladies pipes from the Victorian age were so pretty. That said, what about hookah?
I like hookah! Just takes a while to set up and clean. I feel like I could pull a pipe out and it wouldn’t be a whole drawn out procedure or at least not AS drawn out…
Yay! Do you know hookahs come in sizes? I wonder if a smaller one would be easier to deal with. At least, with a pipe, the drawn out would be part of the fun.
Right? I think I should at least try to develop a vice before I turn 50.
Why? After 50, there will be more time and motivation to find a vice you truly enjoy. Ask your Auntie Trish how she knows this. 🥹
Well I think it would give me an excuse to relax more? I’ve always been slightly jealous of smokers and their smoke breaks.
Oh! Okay, that does make sense. I’ve always been annoyed that the smokers get that break and rest of us are just out of luck. Anything that helps you relax, love. ❤️❤️❤️
My kids would be horrified 🤣🤣🤣
That’s an even better reason!
😆
That was supposed to be a kissy face. /sigh Your Auntie Trish needs more sleep.
Hahah Hopefully you have the weekend off??
No, ma’am. I have the holiday off but already have plans. My days off are Wednesday Thursday. Until Christmas starts and I go back to six days a week. I’m starting to look forward to that.
Oh dear
It’s okay, love. Being tired is how I know I’m still alive.
I’ve found the older I get the fewer vices I need/have. Smoking a pipe was one that I gave up 40+ years ago.
What sort of tobacco did you smoke? Also I’ve been vice-free my entire life 😆
The same pipe tobacco my father smoked.“Barking Dog” “Barking Dog never bites”
Smell nice?
It does! Both in the can and when smoking.
That’s really mostly what I’m interested in lol
Sadly they stopped selling it a couple of years ago.
Awww!!! Too bad! Someone mentioned Black Captain as being an older smell-good variety
